Gonna try and hit the yard this morning before the rain. Is it worth it? or too late?

First start with pre and post emergent weed control now. No need to fertilize right now until all the weeds are gone. Also go ahead and get a soil sample which will help dictate what nutrients you will need then fertilize in a few weeks after mowing a couple of times.

Can someone explain why pre emergent now?

What weeds is it preventing? Summer weeds?

feed should be continuous all year long. Weed should be done when weeds are present.

Your pre em is going to prevent some annual weeds. I’m not a big fan of atrazine as a pre/post. I don’t like the spectrum of weeds controlled. Craw likes dimension which is a good pre. I like barricade/halts. Both will work well.

So if somebody put bonus S down a week ago on St Augustine grass, would that hurt it? There’s lots of weeds.

No - it won’t hurt it, but it would have been more effective to start to control winter weeds a month ago, and it’s still a bit early to fertilize in our area. Weed & Feeds are not bad products, it just the timing of applying them is rarely optimal for each activity - weed control and lawn fertilization. It’s really just a “convenience” product for the homeowner, one activity vs 2 activities - that’s why they are popular.
