John Deere D130 blade won't engage

Was mowing, disengaged blade while going across driveway, tried to re-engage when coming onto grass. Nothing. Lever moves, PTO switch button presses just fine.
What could it be?

I had a belt that wasn't the right size, so if I lowered the deck down to the lowest setting, the blades wouldn't turn, or atleast wouldn't turn strongly enough to cut the grass.

If the PTO switch is good check belt tension and pulley free play.
When you engage the blade with the handle can you feel tension/resistance on the engagemenment handle?

I feel tension but I don't know how to describe it. It feels different. Not loose, just a different type of tension. Almost like it's not locking into place

Try resetting your spring from the engagement handle to create more tension.

Also look for any debris around your belts and pulleys.

I bet that's what it is.
I was mowing some pretty thick tall grass. My neighbor apparently didn't hire anyone to mow his grass when he moved out and put his house up for sale.
I checked the belt this morning it acted like it was trying to tighten but couldn't. Probably blocked. I'll check after work.
Thanks guys

Put a cinder block or something heavy on the seat, engage the blade, and look down to see what's going on with the belt
