Hey everyone, we're doing a full kitchen remodel, and I'm having trouble picking out something as simple as the sink.. Demo began this morning, and we kinda have everything picked out except for the sink and faucet.

We want to go with something a little "upscale" or different for the material. We're liking the quarts and granite composite for the look.. and that it's not stainless. Just bored of the stainless sink look I guess. Thinking of going with black for the sink. The countertops have some black patterns that would look good with a dark sink.

Countertop is going to be quartz. I know sinks that are made from quartz and granite are not the same look and feel of quartz and granite countertops.

Just wondering what some opinions are from here on these types of sinks. Hard to gauge amazon reviews since so many are good, but seems every sink has some negative reviews talking about cracking and staining.

Do any of you have quartz or granite sinks? Durability issues? Cleaning issues?

Thanks, guys. I have to pick out a new faucet as well. Wife and I are liking this style (I'll post a picture below), but we're worried about having to drill multiple holes in the countertop... if we went with a single hole faucet down the road, how do you cover pre-existing holes from the previous sink mount? Or is that an unnecessary worry?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Here are some links that show the style of the sink and faucet. I'm looking at some higher end products like these. Trying to keep it reasonable though.

How easy will it be for the black to get scratched or knicked? Kids run by and throw forks and knives in the sink all of the time.

Based on the some of the reviews (a small portion of course), the main problem was cracking. Some claimed they received the sinks already cracked when delivered. Not much talk about chipping and scratching.

my 2 cents. We redid four sinks in our old house, we spent about three times as much as pretty good sinks would have cost to get something a little more upscale. It was a mistake, no one cared, including us. I would just get a great sink from a good manufacturer that is timeless. We have a big farmhouse sink, I am not a huge fan but it is a nicer one that is pretty easy to get clean. Some buddies have a less nice one and it stains really easily.

I am not an expert at anything, but I wouldnt worry much about the sink.

Get a quality stainless steel sink. Scratches will not be as big a deal. I do not know about the other sink materials but I imagine they might not hold up as well as as traditional stainless.

Don't buy from Amazon. You COULD land a deal, but you're better off making a safe bet and buying a reputable brand from Home Depot or Lowe's.

Holes go in the countertop itself, so whoever it building your sink countertop should only be placing a single hole if you want a single hole faucet.

Dark colors will show dirty. If you don’t clean the sink after using it, it will show way more than a stainless or white sink.
Not that big of a headache but something to consider.

Thanks for the replies. We're just bored of stainless and wanted something different. Figured a dark color would pop with the lighter countertops.

Yeah, the company needs the make and model of the sink and faucet we are buying for their template before the counter top gets installed later this month.

The people who installed pink toilets in the 70s wanted a little something different too.

Our house was finished this past May, and we went back and forth over sink material. We thought we wanted a farmhouse sink in the granite/quartz material. Looking at reviews, we had the same concerns as you. People mentioned they came cracked or cracked during installation. We also considered cast iron enameled sink. But we read about wearing and scratching.

In the end, the Mrs. decided to go with stainless steel for durability reasons. We are extremely happy we did. First, the sink looks great. Second, no one really cares about your sink. Third, the durability issues are not a concern. My wife would have been anxious over any scratches, nicks, etc. if we would have splurged on the other sink. She didn't even go with the farmhouse sink, and she has no regrets on that either.

Yeah, hammered copper is cool but I don't want to pay $1400 for a sink... lol

The main problem I'm having is there are always some comments on all these materials with people bitching about the product.

Even people bitching about stainless steel looking dirty all the time.

I'm almost to the point of ignoring those types of comments because maybe they are just full of crap or got a rare lemon of a product. But those comments do concern me. I just don't want to have anything installed that may be a quick problem..

This ^^

I don’t think I would overthink this. You can’t go wrong with a quality stainless. The deeper the better.

Starting to think this. I have found some black stainless sinks. That might be the best option.

Just a good high quality dark stainless.

Oh. I thought might be anodized or something rather than a coating...

I'm not exactly sure what anadized stainless is or if they make sinks out of it... lol

We only needed the sink, gave them whatever the sink paperwork came with and they figured out how to cut it.

You should just need to tell them you want a single hole for the faucet and decide if you want one for a soap dispenser or not. Almost every faucet and soap is at least 1", which shouldn't be that big a deal for your countertop people to just cut. If you've ever installed a faucet into a countertop, it doesn't matter THAT much. They should have a standard hole size to cut for those since they all vary.

Well, I’m 6’5” and it doesn’t bother me. TBH though, I seldom wash any dishes.

We're not certain if we're going with a single hole faucet or a 3 hole bridge faucet.

I actually made an executive decision and went with a totally different style than we have previously considered for the faucet.

Gonna get this one in matte black. Has a nice traditional look to me.
