Has anyone in the Lafayette, LA area used either on of these companies for lawn fertilizing and weed control service?

Immediately no. Do yourself a favor.

Get a backback sprayer and broadcaster.

Start new thread with grass type and pictures of weeds you have.

I promise that we (well Ronk and Crawdude for sure) will point you in the right direction.

You'll also save money and have much better results.

both are not what you will want.. trust me.. If you really want someone to do it for you, find a small time guy that loves doing it on the side and talk with them.

For sure. If you don't feel like doing it I'd just save your money. I had Green Seasons before I started doing it myself and my weed situation got worse every year.

From everything I can tell it is essentially a rip off. All of the yards with the little tru green flags in my neighborhood look like dog shite.

I'll take the contrary opinion here.

My neighbor has tru-green.

I do my own pre-emergent and weed control and fertilizer.

His lawn has zero weeds.

I still get some weeds. Not a ton, but I get them. He has zero.

He also likely pays multiples of what you spend.

Hire a local company if you just don't have time to do it yourself.

We are in Lafayette, we actually use the best chemicals unlike Trugreen. Fill out a quote on our website here and I can get you a quote for our program.

I will admit that I did no follow up on what they did or ever point out problems. I just paid my money and let them at it. I’m sure if I had pointed out my issues they would have addressed them. I just had no idea what I was doing.

Thanks for the information. I have had the lawn doctor for almost three years and my yard just does not look like I thought it would look for paying someone to fertilize and spray for weeds.

A good lawn takes alot of work. More than a for profit company is able to provide (within a price point most people will pay).

There is also much more to it than just weed and feed applications. Aeration, spot treatment of problem areas, regular mowing at the right height, leveling, etc. etc.

The only way to get the results you desire (if that's a GREAT lawn) is to pay loads of $ or put in the sweat equity.

This is in no way to imply you are poor or unmotivated! Just trying to reinforce what you already see, which is companies such as the ones listed aren't the best option.

Just know if you decide to jump in and do it yourself, its not a sprint, and you have plenty of support here.

I use Scott products with great success
Cut you grass every 10 days at medium high height and use a mulching lawn mower…..

Tru Green

I briefly entertained the idea of hiring them when I got my first house in Florida. I immediately reconsidered when the guy they sent out kept calling my centipede grass St. Augustine.

I have paid Tru Green twice here. Weeds are better, grass hasnt greened up like I would like inspite of irrigation present (Zoysia), I will commend them on getting rid of my ridiculous fire ant problem. And to add, I thought it was not too pricey. It was right at 100 bucks, I have 1.2 acres and they treated all for ants and about .75 for turf and I paid them like 120 if I recall.
