Lighting in the main home: Rocker switch or regular switch?

Asking for opinions. I fricking hate rocker switches (they remind me of a double wide we had at the TB camp back in '84), but the other party that co-owns my home thinks they are very high-end. We're installing new lights in the living room and it's about to be WWIII here trying to decide on light switches.

I prefer toggle switches from a function POV. One thing both my wife and I have noticed is a lot of Decora rocker switches don't have enough UV protection in the plastic and yellow over time. I also prefer not to mix the two in a house but both our house and camp have Decora switches in the bathroom and behind the counter in the kitchen because they match the GFCI outlets that are right there in clear view.
If you want to be on trend use the Legrand adorne line. The line has a full line of switches that activate in various ways.

If we only had a Home and Garden board for these kind of questions.

The frick is this shite? Is this another way to call your non-married gay sexual companion? If you call your wife this, God help you if she finds out your user name. Or, bad move to buy a house with someone you’re not related to, at least legally.

I added Rocker switches with dimmer slides to the LED lights when we remodeled.
Sometimes they are too bright.

Back in 2004 I built a house and thought it would be really cool to those old style, 2 push button type switches.
Goldish plate with 2 black buttons, seemed like a grand idea in a "traditional" european style home.
Oh well, the price point nixed that dream, but it's still a cool idea. Probably sucks for functionality too.

I meant my husband. I'm a chick. I was trying to be oblique. He has no idea of my username, as he doesn't post here. My dad and my brothers do have accounts here, though, and I hope to God they haven't figured out who my dumbass is.
On the whiskey thread last week, I think I may have identified one of my brothers, but I'm not going to ask. Probably best not to know for sure.

Good point. We decided to go in that direction. What's a good brand? We got GE from Lowe's, but I don't have much faith in GE these days.

When we remodeled our house we changed out all the switches to rocker types. That's what the wife (no pics for you perverts) wanted, and I didn't really care either way. Flash forward a few years and now Smart Switches are the thing. They look like rocker switches but they are not. There are several advantages to the smart switches, and outlets. First off you can control them from your cell phone, or an echo type device, or even a home control panel or home hub, if you are so inclined. Now for the best part, if you have grand kids, especially the ones approaching their teens, or are already in their teens, then you can use smart switches and outlet to irritate the hell out of the budding knowitalls! I cannot stress how much fun this is. For example, the rooms mine sleep in all have a schedule that turns the lights off every 15 minutes, The outlets kill the TV, and their other things every 15 minutes, starting at 10 PM. There is no end to what you can do with these devices, depending on your level of deviousness. You really are only limited by your imagination. My preferred brand is TPLink. They seem to give the most bang for your dollar. They only drawback to them is no smart fan speed control switches, but there are other options for that. Myself I used "Treatlife" smart fan speed switches, and they integrated well with my smart home. Good luck with what you decide to use!

GE isn't too bad.
Leviton and Lutron seem to hold up well.

Team rocker/toggle here. Decora is for try-hards.

Living rooms should have dimmable lights nowadays since that's standard in a lot of homes. You can avoid the rocker and get a dimmable switch that you like, or get a rocker with a dimmer switch. Leviton has a nice rocker with a slide that adjusts the dimmer.
Our kitchen has a GE Smart Switch with a motion sensor that won't turn on if there's sufficient light in the room and I like that. Comes on downstairs in the morning when we get up. It's paired with our GE wafer lighting.
