Lowes Carpet install

Ive got a 350 sq ft bonus room that ive completed myself (drywall, minor electrical, insulation, plumbing, tile work) and ive reached the point where i had to get someone else to do the work (carpet install). i bit the bullet and went to lowes, picked out a carpet, and paid. Lowes, from my basic understanding, if you spend over some $600, the installation is supposed to be free. I paid roughly $1000 for the 420 sq ft of carpet needed, but I see on the cost breakdown, an additional $500 for "Labor and Materials". I am assuming that is tack strips, which is understandable somewhat, but i thought installation would be free. my total bill was $1500 and its taken a week and a half and still no carpet with little word from lows. I contacted the manager to find out whats been going on and apparently, my delivery has been delayed multiple times.
two questions...shouldnt "materials and labor" be included in the carpet price? i was under the impression that when i buy the carpet, tack strips, pad and install labor were all baked-in to the price i was seeing?...otherwise, im actually paying for an install.
second question...is $1500 a reasonable price for a 55 oz carpet, install (odd shaped room with a dormer, then square area, a closet, steps, a landing, and steps)?
it seemed a little high to me, but its not a square room either.

I did the same with home depot this past winter. Carpet in 3 bedrooms. Free installation and there were no extra fees besides taxes on the carpet. I think I paid a little extra for the better carpet padding.

That's what's happening.

I’m good with that. The area isn’t a picnic. I mostly blame Lowe’s for not being very transparent. Shitty customer service isn’t helpful

No one works for free. There isn’t a single tradesman in this world that works for free. They build everything into the price and overcharge you for everything. Carpet pad which is probably a cheap rebond and tack strip alone are probably quadruple the price or more. The quality of carpet you get is usually nothing special at all. You are better off going to an actual flooring store. You can get a much higher quality pad for the same or less. Take the store Lowe’s quote and match it apples to apples on materials and I bet they beat Lowe’s every time

It’s a 7/16 pad with stain blocker…not too shabby. I would think it’s closer to $1100 type of job with my grade carpet. I just didn’t expect a “labor” charge for something that claims free install. I would think that is already baked in at $2.50+ / sq ft carpet. Just not clear on what the labor is. Prep? Precut? Special cuts? Stairs? I definitely should have asked more questions, but like I said, customer service wasn’t great and I’m a big Lowe’s fan.
