Sorry so late on this response. I live in Walker, LA. It's right on the outskirts of Baton Rouge.

Why? I know nothing about grass, so I'm interested in this response.

You also said it's "cheap." I haven't been able to find it what I would consider cheap. Do you know of a place where I can get it in bulk at a good price?

It’s personal preference really. All grasses have pros and cons. I dislike centipede because it has a dull color and is VERY slow to recover from damage. It’s just not a “beautiful lawn” grass. Again, don’t get me wrong, it’s a perfectly fine and acceptable lawn and there’s no general problems with it. On larger lawns it may even be preferred since it requires little fertilizer and grows slowly.

Centipede is going to be cheaper compared to Bermuda, Zoysia, or St. Aug. It can also be seeded if you’d like to go that route, although germination can be slow and unsuccessful. Most places I called Centipede runs around $130/pallet if I recall. Zoysia, for example is like $240/pallet.

For sod, I’d suggest Woerner Turf or Quality Sod. There’s plenty of places to get Centipede, but those are two of the most common suppliers. If you want to go Hydroseeding, Sprouts Seeding is in the North Walker area. I haven’t used them, but I talked to them about a year ago when evaluating hydroseeders.

Just to give you an idea. Here centipede sod with Burmuda planted seed. Sod laid mid April seed a few weeks after. I wish I had sodded the whole damn yard lol.

Man, I wish there were pictures and questions before you laid sod. A wide open full sun lawn would have done great with princess 77/Arden 15 bermuda seed.

Don’t pay attention to guys that drop by to say negative things about bermuda. They are clueless.

Seeding is difficult around the house when there’s a slope. Sod helps to hold it in place and establish early without a bunch of erosion. Plus dealing with mud and watering around the house for a couple weeks sucks.

I did ask a BUNCH of questions, but never really got any good answers or directions. Ultimately I went with Palisades Zoysia sod around the house. I wanted a seeded variety, so St. Aug was out. Unfortunately i didn’t realize the Palisades variety of Zoysia is not a seeded type. I’m now seeding other areas with Arden 15. Ideally, I’ll end up with PZoysia in the front yard on one side of my driveway, and Arden 15 everywhere else. But the front may end up with a Zoysia/Bermuda mix.

I’ve been pretty impressed with the Arden 15 seed. It germinated in 8 days, and has come in pretty well for 2 months. I just ordered another 10 lbs, so I now have about 22 lbs left to put out.

Where are you located? If you have decent soil in place find someone who can Harley Rake it. It will turn the soil, grade and get trash (rocks/sticks/root) out of there. Then when that is complete come back and see if with Arden 15 or the equivalent called Pyramid 2.

As the previous poster said, I was ready to be done with the clay mud up around the house. This was new construction, after 5 months of living here during the wet winter, my family was sick of all the mud and not ever playing in the yard. It was always my intention. To sod then seed. I don’t really care as much about variety or mixing and matching as long as it covers the mud lol.

Just look at those pictures with full sun princess 77 bermuda seed with 1/16-1/8 of an inch of solid would have germinated in 5-7 days. Mud would have only been an issue for about 30 days. I do understand having to do something and eventually just making a decision.

None of that will kill Bermuda. Sethoxydim will. I like the Over the top 2 lable. But you have to be relentless putting it down because the Bermuda will try and com back if you don't get it all.

lol. You know Bermuda is technically a weed. I don't like it but I don't hate on people that do. It's weird the attitude Bermuda lovers have.

Technically a weed is anything that you don't want growing in your lawn, garden, or flowerbed. So St Aug and centipede are weeds as well. A bermuda lawn is not a weed.
