Outdoor fireplace, diy advice..

So, I have started doing my own projects around my house. Built my own carport. Poured a slab (13x20) out back to build a pavillion. I've decided to build an outdoor fireplace.
Seeking advice on do and don't
Is a slant vent on back of fireplace necessary?
Best brick adhesives?
Use or avoid cinderblocks at base?
Seeking knowledge my friends...

There are three different paths:
1) brick stack
2) brick firebox w/ metal frame surround
3) DIY
There are kits you can buy for both options but figure out what your budget is and what look you’re trying to accomplish and you’ll pretty much know what way to go.

Purchase a pre fabricated fire box setup from isokern brand or similar then brick around it as you see fit. There are several sizes available. Regular building materials aren’t going to hold up to the heat. And installing an isokern firebox ex extremely easy diy.
That’s what I would do.

do a search; this topic has come up in the last couple of months on here and there's some good info in that other thread.

I recently had one built. It is gas assist, wood burning. That would be my only advice. It's great to use the gas to help get the fire started.

I think you can buy online blueprints per se and it lays everything out for you 10-20 bucks

Thanks! I've been looking at Isokern and FireRock. The prefabricated ones are pricey! Might be the only way to go though. My first plan was to use normal bricks/cement blocks and then line the actual fire area with fire bricks.
I also will have a heatplate with a buck and a doe in the back of the back of the fire. I will post pics when I'm done!!!

If you are building a brick fireplace yourself, make sure you know what you are doing so it will draft properly. As a warning, I have had 2 large ones built and both contractors poured a 4’ deep concrete base for support.

I built one myself using the fire rock kit.
I built a massive foundation for the fireplace.
Built the kit up from that and then built the outside (bricks) from there.
The inside has to be lined with firebrick.
It has since had landscaping done. That pic is pretty old.
