Pool pump won't prime after filter change

Question for all you experienced pool owners.
Pump was working fine before the filter changeout. I turned off the system, opened up the filter housing, installed brand new filters. Buttoned it all back up, added water to pump basket, and fired it up.
Usually after cleaning filters, it take a couple minutes to fill the filter housing, and then everything will be running normal. Today, though, the housing never fills up, and there is never any pressure shown on my filter pressure gauge.
Any ideas? Never had this issue before. Usually it's a piece of cake to get it running.

Something probably isn't sealed somewhere. The cleanout basket is a PITA sometimes to get sealed by my pump.

Gasket could not be installed properly on filter housing.
Also, open basket housing and run a water hose in it for a few minutes. It may help because it introduces water into the line and may help with the prime.

Try these two things: (1) if you have a water source (like city water to fill up the pooo) that is inline in front of the pump turn it on and (2) restrict input to just one other source with the most pressure (the deep end bottom of the pool drain, if you have one). Once it gets going adjust the incoming water source to whatever you had it at before. For me that means half bottom drain half skim basket.

Check the doors in your skimmer to make sure one isn't stuck in the closed vertical position. That has happened to me a couple of times.

What they said, also if you have an elevated spa...you can put it in spa mode and let gravity do the work for priming and startup.

Probably bleeding air somewhere. My main filter pump does this sometimes when it doesn’t seal completely.

That’s happened to me. I have to tighten mine super tight. So much so that I need to use to a lever on the handle to open it each time.

I recently had a similar issue and turned out to be trash was jamming up the impeller. I turned the pump off, opened up the housing and used a screwdriver to dislodge all kinds of leaves, acorns and junk that was keeping the impeller from turning correctly. Buttoned everything back up and it worked like a charm. The only other thing that I can think of is an air leak somewhere. Good luck

As others said check the skimmer baskets and make sure water is flowing in when the pump is trying to prime. Next would be some debris fouled the impeller, do you get leaves and small sticks in the pump basket? Do you vacuum the pool directly into the pump basket? Big no no.
It would have to be a really big leak for it not to prime enough to show a leaky seal somewhere so my guess your problem is between the pool and the pump impeller.

Turned out it was a bad seal on the pump basket cover. After about 3 hours of troubleshooting, ended up being an easy fix.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
