Pool Resurfacing: PebbleTec vs Pool Plaster (Quartzscape/Diamond Brite)

We purchased a home this past Summer with a pool, but badly in need of a resurfacing. The resurfacing contractor I preferred was really pushing the Pebbletec (it's abt $2500 more expensive). I've read it will last quite a bit longer and not lose it's color vs Plaster, but the surface is considerably rougher. What have folks experience been with PebbleTec?

Can’t help with that — but we’re getting quotes for pool replastering. There is a wide range for the same line items.
We’re talking from $11,000 to $23,000.

We have PebbleSheen, which is made by PebbleTec. Quite a bit smoother than Tec and it has held up very well over 5 years. Pool looks the exact same as the day it was installed. Was told it should last up to 20 years if we maintain correct pool chemistry. No complaints on my end.

We had a plaster pool with Quartz mixed in and our current pool we had pebbletec installed. Pebbletec will last longer. The downfalls I've dealt with is the dark color, I can't see algae starting to grow as early as I could with plaster. The porous surface makes it more difficult to sweep the algae out. I haven't heard of the PebbleSheen product. If it's smoother than Pebbletec, I would absolutely go with that over PebbleTec.
Can't say I regret the pebbletec but I would have gone with a lighter color for sure, and if you keep up with your maintenance and chemical levels, the algae won't be an issue. But nobody's perfect and you'll let it slip from time to time.

Recently went through this same decision process. Was going to go with their Pebblesheen finish, but my kids hated the roughness (my wife and I had no problems with it) after trying it out and the certified Pebbletec installer was on the pricier end of the spectrum even for plaster finishes.
We ended up going with Wet Edge (the main Pebbletec competitor) and choosing the Primera Stone finish which is a polished aggregate. It's a good bit more expensive, but smoother than plaster and lasts the longest. You can have it re-polished when the finish wears instead of needing an expensive re-application.
Whatever you choose, make sure to use a certified installer. A lot of pool companies will offer the various aggregate finishes, but may not be qualified to properly install them.
