Is it vital or can I just go to something like this in late March or so? This is more of a post emerge and fertilizer.

Pre-Emergent is certainly not vital if you don’t experience significant annual winter, spring and summer weeds in the lawn - but it makes makes one’s life easier in regards to reducing the need for constant post-emergent weed control.

You can certainly use the the Fertilome 15-0-15 with Trimec (Weed & Feed) in centipede in late March/mid-April for broadleaf weed control but that is the only time frame window you should use it, and not thereafter. It won’t control grassy weeds like crabgrass, so if you have experienced grassy weed issues in the past it would well serve you to use a pre-emergent.

Echoing what Craw said!!! I will say that for my yard (5 year old tif 419) I did not use a pre em until spring of year 3. I didn't have to because I did not have weed pressure in the beginning. I've posted pictures of my yard and I pointed out that my neighbor does less than nothing for his yard. Eventually his grassy weeds began to creep into mine.

Thank you both...as usual. Weeds are minimal but I don't have a crystal ball for what summer may bring. I appreciate the advice of using that fertilome centipede weed n feed once.
I have tendency to overthink centipede.

The main thing to remember about centipede is it requires about 1/2 the amount fertilizer per application than other warm-season lawn grasses, and usually 1 or 2 fertilizations per year are more than adequate. Using a Trimec herbicide on centipede with a second fertilization in June/July heat can/will damage the turf grass.

Same product Fertilome 15-0-15 or similar but with no herbicide - in other words, a low nitrogen straight lawn fertilizer, not a weed&feed. LESCO makes a 18-0-18, 15-5-15 that Sire One carries at the BR store.

You want to apply 1/2 lb N per 1000 sq ft per application to centipede, so 3 1/3 lbs of 15-0-15 per 1000 sq ft.

Would you recommend LESCO 0-0-7 on a 8 month old Centipede lawn?

I believe that would would be a pre-emergent herbicide product either Stonewall (Prodiamine) or Dimension (dithiopyr) and yes I’d recommend it on a 8 month old centipede lawn.

Crawdude, would I be better going with that Lesco 0-0-7 soon and then just the straight Fertilome 15-0-15 you mentioned and continue with the 15-0-15 through the growing months?

Yes, I would and I do in my centipede lawn. Most professionals recommended keeping weed control and lawn fertilization as two separate activities. And remember, max 2 fertilizations per year with centipede, one by mid-April and the second, which is optional, by mid-July, each not exceeding 1/2 lb N per 1000 sq ft, and when using 15-0-15 that equates to 3 1/3 lbs per 1000 sq ft.

I feel you there.

I have learned since last year and re-sodding half my backyard so wonderfully, that I get to stop caring because now i have bermuda taking over by the end of last summer in about a 5-10 foot radius depending on shape.

I am so screwed now.
