Professional roof washing vs DIY

Have some shady areas with stuff growing between the shingles. Hire pro or DIY? Roof is too steep to get onto. So I guess I would reach with ladder and long brush.

That's going to get old really quick and you won't do as good a job as a pro who has the know-how to get up on the roof and do it right.
Probably not going to be real cheap either with a steep roof to deal with.

Quotes were between 1100 and 1600 for the whole roof

WOW, not only is your roof steep, but the prices you got are also in that range.
What's the pitch on your roof for that kind of price? I'd think anything above 9 on 12 would warrant that kind of pricing.

You paying over a grand for a cosmetic roof wash?

I hired a messican to get up there and get it done with my equipment. It took him all of 6 hours but it’s worth it. Gave him $200 and a hot lunch with 2 Red Bull’s.

I sprayed a mixture of awesome, bleach and oxy clean on our roof.
Let it sit and let the rain wash it off
Removed the mold and dark stuff off the shingles

I’m not sure but it has multiple tiers with different pitches. It’s also quite high in some places. The area I’m focused on is lower but has the steepest pitch.

Not paying anything yet, but is it just cosmetic if shite is growing? Will that not damage the roof if unchecked?

I had the same issue at my last house. Get some Bayer Moss and Algae Killer (Lowes about $12.00)spray it on and forget about it. Will look like new in a few days. May have to get on a ladder and make an extension for your hose (I used pvc pipe).
Don't use bleach on shingles

The guy that cleaned mine applied the solution to the roof with a pressure washer. He didn’t use the force of the pressure washer to clean.....but just to soak the roof from a distance. He never set foot on the roof, but climbed up a ladder to the gutter level, and sprayed from there. He was done in 45 minutes. After the next rain, the roof was perfectly clean. My charge (Atlanta) was only $275.
If I were you, facing an $1100 expense, I’d take a small gamble and try to clean it myself. If you don’t like your results, then call one of your estimates. Protect your plants in the drip zone.

the question is what solution should you spray

So what is the best cleaner to buy for this? I'm thinking about cleaning the roof on a house I just bought.
Everything I've read online recommends some mixture w/bleach...

Bayer Moss and Algae Killer. Lowes sells it. Attach to hose spray it on. That's all there is to it.

Cosmetic. Will not harm shingle performance over time.....but improper washing can!

I applied Spray and Forget on my north-side roof in March - hasn't made a difference. I'm going to try another shot soon but I don't have my hopes up.
I wouldn't let some jake leg with a pressure washer pull in my driveway.
