Thinking of upgrading the mattress with some new furniture coming. What are the best ways to navigate the different sales? Is there a way to find out who has the best price while not lacking in the service department.

my wife bought one from Mattress Firm. She had a sales guy that was relentless and talked down to her. She went back a different day and ended up buying one from another guy.
The mattress itself is crap. We bought it for our daughter and 2 years later need another. Now it was NOT the high end stuff but it was a $400 mattress.
My wife and have a NEST bed, a hybrid of springs and memory foam. Cooler than an all memory foam bed. We bout a Puffy online and it was all memory foam and too hot. The NEST we have is very supportive laying on your back and supports you lumbar well.
Long story long, check out some Youtube videos and reviews. There are several channels that just review mattresses. Don't be scared of the online only mattress like Puffy, Nest, Casper, etc. We returned our Puffy and it was so easy. Then we turned around and bought another brand. They send somebody to pick them up and I believe donate the returns.

My opinion is to save your money on an expensive, name brand mattress and get yourself a quality mattress topper. You won't know the difference.
Sams has a Serta 4" topper that is nice.

Someone was telling me that mattress prices at these stores are completely negotiable, not sure if true or not.

Bought a couple memory foam type mattresses in a box online and have been very happy with them. $400 for a king size December 2021.

I mean, it comes down to what you're looking for. Mattresses should be considered a mini investment. They will last hopefully 10 years until you need a new one. over 10 years/120 months you can divide up how much you are saving through that length of time.
Best mattress out right now are pocketed coil/hybrid mattresses, IMO. We have a Purple Hybrid that we love. I regret not spending another $600 to get a king mattress. Will eventually get a king and use that mattress for the extra bedroom. Looking at Mattress Firm, the prices are about the exact same between both Purple's site and theirs.
Check websites like Macy's/JCPenney that sometimes have furniture sales. Again, it really just comes down to what you want. Always be looking. Just because it's Labor Day doesn't mean that it's always going to be cheaper for mattresses. This is a product that is notoriously expensive/overpriced and rarely gets any type of major deal/sale.

We have had a stearns and foster for over 12 years, still in amazing shape. About time to grab another. Just looked up on line and it was 4500 bucks for their sale. Oh my.

We drove around to 4-5 different mattress stores over the weekend. Ended up buying once from Mattress Direct. You could buy a King for the price of a queen, + $600.00 off. Pretty decent deal.
