Put down prodiamine yesterday.

5.2g per 1000. 14,400 ft total. Problem is, I was spraying and noticed my pump was not staying running for the first part of my spray, battery was dying. Went back over everything real fast to help it but thinking I probably screwed it up . But, got some protection.

I also put it down yesterday.

some is better than none. good job!
q: how did you come up with 5.2g/ksf? is that based on half the minimum annual rate? you may be selling yourself short there.
It’s labeled for up to .83oz/ksf/year which is 25.3g.

Poochie,
I have been spraying Prodiamine 65W, yellow granules, mixed one oz. (volume-shotglass) to a gallon of water with pump up sprayer on centipede here in Laplace for a few years now with decent results - if applied timely.
What do you think of my mix ratio? Too potent?, weak?
All comments apprieciated.
Also anyone have a link to the ground temps by zipcode site?

The short answer is if it’s working, you’re doing something right.
The long answer is we’re missing two pieces of information to get your actual application rate. Prodiamine is measured by weight per thousand square feet. We’d need to convert that fluid ounce to weight and also figure how much square footage you’re covering with that amount.
ETA:looks like prodiamine has a conversion chart that says 1.5 level teaspoons (fluid) = 0.4oz (weight) of product. So if that’s the case, 1floz (shot glass) should cover 4400sf at the minimum yearly application rate of 0.36oz/ksf and 1900sf at the maximum yearly application rate of 0.83oz/ksf.

I put mine down the last week of January before I went away for a couple weeks for work. Also sprayed some image
Came back over the weekend and still had some Poa break through. Guess I wasn’t early enough
But looking at other yards in the neighborhood I have basically minimal Poa and winter weeds compared to everyone else.

Hey Poochie,
What would be the measurement in tsp/tbsp per gallon of Prodiamine? Also, would it need to be added with anything else like a surfactant? I want to try and get it done during lunch today. I've got a two gallon sprayer so I would do double what the mixture calls for. Currently working with a .3 acre lot size.

10-4 Poochie
Subdivsion Lot is about 5000sq ft less 2000 sq ft (home&concrete), so about 3000sq ft grass.
Per Google, 2 tablespoons in 1 dry ounce
Typically use 2 gallon sprayer and refill once to do whole yard, so putting down a total of 4 dry oz. for 3000 sq ft.
I'm not asking for you to make the calculation - jsut putting this down for the other old baws that read this

BTB,
In for any responses to your question as you may have phrased it better than mine.
Also, here is the ground temps site: LINK

That 3000sf come out right in the middle of my calculation above so it looks like you’re on target. You should be able to apply that twice yearly and stay below their yearly recommended maximum.

Ok, lets look at this. .3 acre is about 13,000SF. I personally try to stay between 1/3 and 1/2 of the yearly max per year so i can apply it twice. If you went half the yearly max application that would be 0.415oz/1000SF or 5.4oz/13,000SF.
I would highly recommend getting a kitchen scale to measure this by ounces but since you're doing it at lunch, let's try to convert this to teaspoons.
5.4oz is what you need for your yard. There's 0.4 oz by weight of prodiamine in 1.5 level teaspoons. Mathing it up you'll need 20.25 teaspoons (or 3.375 fluid oz) to cover that.
Honestly, you're going to have a time with a 2 gallon sprayer to cover that much. I'd split it into 4 or 5 tankfulls. Note: i spray about that much with a 15 gallon tow behind boom sprayer.
Also, you don't need surfactant for prodiamine. Picture it like this: surfactant is to make whatever you're spraying stick to the leaves. With pre-emergent, you're stopping seeds from germinating so there's no leaves to stick to. Basically it creates a barrier at soil level that prevents germination. Hence no surfactant required.

While this is the case here, it’s not exactly this across the board with all materials. I wouldn’t specifically rely on this conversion factor, especially when dealing with herbicides. It’s important that you do the math or apply whatever product according to the label’s noted measurements.
Not all fluid ounces convert to dry ounces at that rate.

Hey Poochie,
Apprieciate your time and comments. I'm 60, born and raised on west side of Houma, only good for cookin, fishing and time in the woods - we may know the same people.
You are a good dude and can drink out my icechest anyday

Gotcha. So about 3 semi-heaping tsp / 2 gallons should be good? This is what I'm using:
Prodiamine 65 Wdg 5lbs Pre-emergent Grass Broadleaf Weeds ( Generic Barricade )
Yeah, it would be nice to have a tow behind, but it feels like a bit of overkill. I can take an hour out of my day so it's not the biggest deal. Spray is electric so I don't have to worry about pumping periodically. I also can't justify spending money to get all that when I don't have the space to store it either. Might upgrade to a four gallon sprayer in the future but we'll see.

I hear ya, whatever gets it done. Electric sprayer certainly helps. That is what i use as well, Prodiamine 65WDG
So on the mix, don't worry about the gallons as much as the application rate. You need to figure out your average walking speed and how many square feet you cover in the time i takes to put down 2 gallons of liquid. Then after you have that you can figure out how much product to use per 2 gallons.
ie: if it takes you 4 tankful's to cover 13,000SF, you need to use 1/4 of the total required per tankful.
3 "semi heaping" tsp would be about 5-6 total and that would cover about 1/4 of your area regardless of how many gallons of water you use.
i highly recommend getting a scale so you can get a more precise measurement than heaping teaspoons. you can get one for $10 on amazon, well worth the price.
ALSO, keep notes. Date, total amount of product used, number of gallons total. So you're not trying to remember last year what you did. even if you just text it to yourself so you can go back and look.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to get around 6 gallons down and cover over half of what I needed to get done before going back to work. Also watered it in a bit. The electric helps. I would saw off my arm if I had to use a pump sprayer ever again.

sounds like you're in good shape. put down maybe a little heavy but still well within the allowable range.
can you share the sprayer you're using for our info? i know for some people a tow behind isnt feasible.

Lesco 2-Gallons Plastic Battery Operated Pump Sprayer
I really like it. I didn't check the battery life but felt that the performance has always been great throughout use. I didn't see how much battery life I had left on it. There are several nozzles it comes with and it has a fairly wide spread on the high volume fan.
$90 and comes with a thin strap to sling around your shoulder. Might be better getting a wider strap after market.
