Question about the depth of a microwave vs. the cabinet's

So I have been looking to upgrade appliances in the kitchen. I had done the dishwasher easily and when this pandemic kicked off I had bought an open box microwave from Best Buy but had not been having anyone over to help install it.
This one LINK I got it for $200 with coupon discounts and being open box.
I wanted a convection oven version like this so i pulled the trigger.
Being the first time of replacing a microwave I had done the normal measurements to make sure it fit. Also being the first time of replacing a microwave, I didn't think of the depth of the microwave.
Like most cabinets, mine are 12" with about an inch of door. This microwave is a little under 17" in depth. The door is a major part of that if you look at the pictures. I have to do some modifications on my backsplash so I havent mounted the bracket to install this yet but am concerned as 4 inches is a bit sticking out from the cabinets.
Should I punt and sell it and get something with less depth? Is this liveable?

Umm Not sure what an appliance cabinet is, but I was talking about my cabinets that hold dishes, cups etc.
Keep in mind, there may be terminology that I am not experienced with. This is an over the stove microwave with normal cabinets surrounding it.

We have our microwave in a deeper cabinet that is set between two standard 12” deep cabinets. It may be 18” deep.
ETA these aren’t mine but you get the idea. Ours are the same height as the two surrounding 12” deep cabinets and on the bottom there’s a shelf for the microwave, and above that is storage.

Well shite... I don't have that. I realize that a microwave above the stove is pretty "builder quality" but it's what I have to deal with. The surrounding cabinets are at 12". This microwave is an above the stove version with a vent and all, so I am not crazy (in my mind) in thinking this would fit most cabinets.

That’s a standard depth for otr microwaves. Unless specified during build to bump out the cabinets there’s nothing you can do about it. Mine currently sticks out the 3 or 4 inches and isn’t really a problem.
The countertop below it is going to bump out 25 inches so its not like your going to hit your head. The vent is also on top unless you plan to hook up to vent outside it should give some clearance for the fan to blow.

Exact same thing happened to us working with about the same depth.
The microwave stuck out about 4-5 inches and looked stupid.
I ended up getting a microwave that fits flush in the cabinet/cut-out. Can’t be more than a dorm microwave but surprisingly is just fine. Wish it was more powerful but that’s not as big an issue as the size.

I believe all of the above the stove microwave will be almost the exact same size with a few variations in depth.
How handy are you in building cabinets?

I would Punt then.
Microwave sizes are way more complicated then they need to be, I agree. It’s absurd it’s not like a stove and they are all basically the same until you get to the high end models. I’ve had a hell of a time replacing ‘built in’ microwaves that the model wasn’t made anymore due to the sizes being under 1” different now.

I’ve had bad luck with microwaves. Had a built-in one with the house when we moved in. I’ve since had to change it twice in 10 years. None were exactly same size or footprint even though I tried for same brand and similar models. Both times I’ve replaced them , I’ve had to change out/add new boards and drill some foot holes and buy new face framing. They were all barely different but yet just enough to throw everything out of whack. It’s frustrating.
Sorry, I’m just venting. I realize I’m not answering OP’s question.

In the same boat. Just bought the microwave realizing that it will stick out 3-4 inches. Not happy about it but not sure there is a better option.

I own a custom cabinet design and installation company. We love people like you.
Is your wife involved in this decision? I have sold some very expensive custom kitchen remodels because the husband went and bought appliances that didn't fit the current kitchen and the wife said we're going to get that kitchen I've been wanting now.
Go and talk with a local cabinet dealer. You never know what they can do for you. I sell them from $1000 to $200000. Sometimes I like the look of a "new" $1000 basic change than I do the most expensive remodels.

thats what happened to me. basically it was gonna stick out 2" 4" or be the size of a dorm microwave

Luckily my fridge is so big and it hides the stick out of the microwave in my opinion
Excuse the mess this is our throw all our shite on this counter section of the kitchen
