I need to buy a rear tine tiller for a 40x40 garden I am planting. Anyone happy with a particular brand they have had experience? I like the DR PRO XLDRT Model and it's available now for $850.00.

I have had a Husqvarna for quite a few years now, and I've had no issues with it. I had a Poulan before it, that cost more than it, that was nothing but constant problems.

Do your research, read the reviews, etc. A garden that size needs a good tiller and you can sometimes find good used ones on Craigslist or other places on the net that has things for sale.
My garden plot is roughly 20 x 50 and before Katrina I had bought a used 8 HP Troybilt Horse tiller and that thing was a mule. It turned over the soil in no time and being self-propelled make quick work with 2 forward speeds and 1 reverse speed. It sat in the floodwaters for over 2 weeks and I didn't have time to mess with it with getting the house back in order.
Tillers are probably getting top price right now and often go on sale in the fall/winter months.
Not sure where you live but it's getting a bit late to put in a summer garden for many things since the heat will not be kind to new plants in a couple months time.

we had a troy built rear tine growing up and it was a tank. not sure they still make then like that, but it lasted forever.

You missed the OB tiller sale extravaganza last year!
I bought a champion rear tone and it’s a beast.
I’ll say this, I bought and used it last October. Tan it out of gas to keep it clean in storage.
Filled it up a few weeks ago and it cranked right up.

Is that the self-propelled big yellow tiller Lowes put on deep discount last year?
If so, that is the same one I got. It came crated up and "some assembly required". I've yet to use it since I had ankle fusion surgery late last fall and still dealing with that issue but plan to put it to use to make a fall/winter garden this year.
If I remember right, that tiller I got was regularly priced near $800 and I got it for just under $300.

Yes to all of this. I thought i was duped but this big wooden crate showed up straight from China and off we went. Assembly wasn't bad, just bolting up a few things. It's heavy and awkward but once you get the wheels on, you can move it around easily.
it was this behemoth:

I still haven't put mine together

Shipping took longer than most on here so I contacted HD about it and they marked it down even more for me. I think I got mine for like $150.

Yep, that's the one. I'm dying to use it but still in PT for the ankle fusion surgery and not sure when I want to put that much work on the ankle with walking on freshly turned soil and it being pretty uneven and soft.
Last thing I want is a set-back with this thing.

I just got a Troy Bilt. It’s a beast. Time will tell on the quality.
