I hear birds nesting in my (not working) chimney. Does anyone know of someone in the New Orleans area that removes birds from a chimney? TIA.

First you start a Roux.

if you don't have a screen on the top of your flue (and it would seem you don't), try this.
Light a propane torch and set in the fireplace (with the damper open of course). Flue will get warm enough that the birds will move.
Immediately after you do this put a screen on the top of your flue or the birds will return.

Cover the chimney openings on the roof with 1/2 inch hardware cloth, 1/4 inch preferably. Keep out birds, squirrels, and other critters.

Chimney swifts are federally protected by the Migratory Bird Act. There are likely nestlings in your chimney... consider allowing them to fledge, then clean out and cap your chimney at the end of the summer.

Wait until the young birds leave their nest and then put a screen on your chimney. They will be gone in a few weeks.

Light a fire in your fireplace.
