Removing Palms from 20’ Palm Trees damaged by the freeze

Is it necessary to have all of these dead palms removed or will they fall out naturally as new growth pushes on them? These trees are 20’ tall and I would have to hire a professional, figuring about $75 per tree.

They will fall off in several years.
Just depends on the look you're going for.

Cut the dead fronds/limbs down unless you’re willing to look at them for a loooong time. They won’t fall until they rot and break off.

You better figure again.

What kind of palm?
When I had Washington palms I would have to cut fonds every few weeks. At least it seemed like that. Just get a pole saw and start cutting.

I suggest a ladder and a pole saw.

Would something like this not work? I use it around my property but never had to deal with palm trees.

Depends on the type of palm but basically this.
There are Mexican fan palms near me that have 7-10 years of dead fronds hanging off of them on an unmaintained property I have to drive by. Looks absolutely horrible.
If all the growth is dead, specifically the spike of green new growth which should be coming out of the top of the palm, the tree is completely dead and needs to be removed.
I have three that died in the snow storm, two of which I haven’t gotten to.
Around here the sabal and pindo palms are fine, the Sylvester palms got hurt but made it, while the Mexican fans & Pygmy dates either died or look horrible.

If you have the means get an extendable power pole saw (gas - stihl or echo, electric is lighter and safer imo).
Depending on tree height you won’t even need a ladder.
The pro guys around here sometimes use an electric sawzall and a ladder, but I’ve found the ladder is both dangerous and the closer you get to the tree the more likely you are to run into wasp nests and whatever else is living up there.

Would 2nd this and also recommend a hard hat. The fronds are usually ok but the leaf bases are heavy and will hurt from 20ft, especially if they're the ones with teeth

If you can hire that done for $75 per tree, jump on that as fast as you can before he changes his mind.
I think you can rent a pole saw at Home Depot, but if they have got one that extends to twenty feet, it will be a bitch to hold it up.

Better get a seat in Professor Peabody's Way Back Machine to go back to the 90's to get those prices.

Had that problem many years ago and just cut them down because it was too expensive to trim. Left about a foot of the trunk and use them for planters.
