Repair or Replace - GE Monogram Fridge

The compressor is trying to go out on my 20 year old built-in GE Monogram. Sounds like an easy decision to replace considering the age. However, they don't make this model anymore and the only thing I've found that will fit the existing cut out without mods is a JennAir. I'm not up for a kitchen reno right now, but could be in a few years. Do I look into replacing the compressor and crossing fingers nothing else fails until I'm ready to redo the kitchen, or do I buy the JennAir, which is probably not what I would get if redoing the kitchen?

there are counter depth versions, cabinet height versions, and regular height v7ersions.

The height is the issue. I only have 83.5, 83 5/8 max. The built ins I've seen require more than that.

inches
every single refrigerator sold at home depot or lowes, or any apliance store is easily going to fit that
even the tallest ones are just 79 inches high

I'm replacing a built-in. I'm not going to stick a 70 something inch counter depth freestanding there leaving a huge gap in my cabinetry.
ETA: 36 wide, 24 deep.

When my GE Monogram built in broke, I couldn’t find anyone willing to fix it. Ended up having to buy a $13k replacement

If it’s a built in, I’d look at getting it repaired.

Not bad, and probably inexpensive enough that you could replace when you eventually do remodel

My suggestion: go to RepairClinic.com and search on your model number. This will tell your which parts are available and their price. If the parts are no longer available, then the repair option is DOA and you can focus on the replacement.
Good Luck!

Sure it's the compressor and not the 3 phase inverter controller? They make the compressor make funny noises before they fail and they all fail eventually on GE monograms .
