Not at Cleggs in Denham or Louisiana Nursery on Perkins.
Is this just a hard tree to find around BR?

Not seen one in BR at the locations you mentioned but purchased one, 15 gal container size, in Forest Hills at Bobby Young Nursery, close to Doug Young Nursery.
But check with management of the retail garden centers you mentioned in BR as they likely would be willing to order one for you from one their wholesale suppliers that have them - they’ll just put on the truck with their next delivery, which is frequent this time of the year.
FWIW, mine didn’t survive (BR), nor did two replantings - not sure of the cause, but I suspect stem borers. It is a grafted redbud. So I went with the Forest Pansy Redbud & it has thrived - go figure. That said, I recommended the Rising Sun Redbud to my SIL in Raleigh NC - he planted one 5 or 6 years ago and it is gorgeous.

I do not think our climate suits those really well. Good luck if you find one!

May just go with a bottle brush.

My bottlebrush, 8 years old, bit the dust in this winter with the 8 F temp in BR - southern exposure and next to brick house with some heat radiating towards it - so take that into consideration as well in your decision. Bottle Brush cold tolerance is similar to a satsuma or kumquat.

yep
not coincidentally I lost an established satsuma, kumquat and bottlebrush during that deep freeze. Both citrus trees were 30+ years old

I planted a flamethrower redbud tree I found at Stines last spring. It’s gorgeous right now but hasn’t grown much since I planted it.

Mine is going on 2 years. It got a black soot and seems to have recovered after using the systemic drench last year.

No doubt that came from Stine’s. Not a knock against you; I’ve bought trees and shrubs on occasion from Stines that I don’t find anywhere else.
At least at my local store, many more than should be tend to look water stressed.
