Roof: Malarkey Vista vs Owens Corning Oakridge or Duration Designer/Flex

My contractor is pushing me to one of these.
The only price I have so far is 9,100 for Oakridge.
Thoughts on these?

What’s more important to you? Impact resistance or wind protection? Duration has a “sure nail” strip that’s going to be hard to beat

I had an OC Duration roof installed two years ago. Hand nailed, 6 nails per shingle and didn’t have a single issue with my roof in the storm (everyone I know around me had at least some roof damage).
At the end of the day, the installer is the most important component.

My neighbor used malarkey - I used CertainTeed, both architectural shingles. The malarkey look thinner to me.

I'm getting a Malarkey Highlander or Vista installed in a few weeks. Haven't decided if the cost upgrade is worth it for the Vista impact resistance. My insurance doesn't offer a premium discount for the impact resistance. And we rarely have damaging hail here in Houma. The Vista does claim to have better tear/pull-out resistance.
Throw out the OC Oakridge, that is their lowest quality arch shingle.
OC Duration Flex seems to be a very good shingle and is a Class 4 Impact, so it is likely to be the highest price.

I just got Vista in storm grey. Looks awesome and is a much better shingle than whatever the builder put on the house 13 years ago. It is rated to 130 mph plus hail resistant.

Who was your roofer if you don't mind me asking?
I'm deciding between weathered wood and natural wood. And of course deciding between highlander and Vista, which for me is about $1700 more.
It would suck to survive a hailstorm with no damage then turn around and need a new roof from a minor hurricane right after. That hail deductible is much less than hurricane. Lol

I'm a roofer in Alabama and though I have no experience with either of those I concur that the contractor is more important than the brand of product. Make sure 1) they're licensed roofers 2) have a business license 3) are insured 4) are certified by the manufacturer to install whatever it is they're trying to sell you. 5) labor warranty labor warranty labor warranty. 99% of roofing issues is labor related do not come from material defects. 6) check their references or BBB complaints. I invite potential customers to come see our work while we're in progress of the job as well as calling previous customers.

That's what I figured. Same here. They are the only certified Malarkey contractor in the state I think.

They did what they said they would do and did it on time. I can recommend.
