Looking at buying property in a rural area that does not appear to have internet other than satellite.

Does anyone use Hughes Net or is Starlink the correct answer?

This would be for a home.

Unless Hughesnet has completely changed in the the last two years, avoid them like the plague. The service was slow and required a large antenna.

Yeah, I had them about 10 years ago and they sucked then, not sure about today.

Starlink is your only answer unless there’s good cell service.

frick no.

Starlink all the way. I live way out in the sticks and Starlink is a total gamechanger. We had tried Hughes, Viasat and some other crap. They all sucked.

My house sits in a little valley on my acreage surrounded by mature hardwoods, so I can't get line of sight to any towers.

Seriously, I couldn't get anything to work decently. Even the phone internet was crappy and couldn't stream anything. Starlink is awesome and I think it's increased the value of my acreage.

Avoid Hughes. They are already slow and will certainly throttle connections if you’re streaming multiple TVs or anything like that. Starlink is giving unlimited data to residential customers are long as you aren’t traveling with it.
5g plans can be really decent in rural areas if you live near a tower. They typically have the right to throttle connections but typically won’t as long as you’re rural and plenty of bandwidth is available.

Did satellite for years, before Starlink reached this area. Then T-Mobile put up a cell tower. Their home internet is 100x better than satellite. Haven't bothered trying Starlink as T-Mobile is only $55/mo. Gets cheaper if you have cell phones with them too.

I had to pay $300 to break a contract with them early several years ago. I have never been happier to write a check in my life. Worst internet I’ve ever had

I see that ATT, T-Mobile and others offer "Fixed Wireless".

Is this something different than Mobile Wireless? I assume it's based off a local cell tower?

That might be an option based on mapping via "LINK ;

Appreciate the suggestions....

Hughes Net was horrible for me. Super slow. Can't stream. Basically used for internet work.

Starlink is the answer. Easy to install by yourself and works great. You can monitor it remotely.

I have had Starlink for 4 months now and no issues. It works. Have to have an unimpeded north facing view. Only way to go in my opinion. Cell phone rarely has reception out here. I can make and receive cell phone calls through WiFi.

I just installed Starlink and it's been absolutely wonderful. If I had fiber or another high speed option, I'd opt for that, but Starlink is SOO much better than the other internet options out here.

Hughes Net is barely above dialup speed…it is terrible. Starlink is fine, true high speed internet, but they are quite a bit more expensive. Fiber is the best option, but it is not available in many areas.

We’ve had Hughes Net for six years, no issues except not to,good for streaming prime time which we don’t do . It’s far better than the local, company that was down once a week. They come out and install a dish and you are good to go. Reasonable as it is always working.

If you ain't getting starlink, you are doing yourself a disservice.

I have a place in in the sticks in Concordia Parish and starlink works like a champ.
