Has anyone done this? The price on shitty tough sheds has me thinking I can get a 20' one trip shipping container and Clad it to make it look nicer and it would be

1: Cheaper
&
2: Much more secure / weather protected.

The shipping container hype is dying because of how high the cost steel is, regardless of whether or not you get it used or new. You can make them look nice but it still looks like a shipping container at the end of the day.

If you clad the exterior, great, but if you plan on making the interior look nice then you're going to lose a lot of already minimal space. If you cut holes for windows, you're also cutting into the structural integrity.

I always liked the idea of two shipping containers spaced far enough apart that you can build a roof between them to create a covered area.

be aware that a “new” container will likely have a wood floor highly impregnated with insecticides. Which is great for no insects but not so great for your health

we always seal the floor then cover with new plywood when we buy them. They still stink though

Like that or even a flat roof depending on what your budget/need is.

What’s the price of a building a stick shed? Lumber has come down quite a bit, so I can’t imagine it’s too expensive to build a shed. A little OSB and maybe Hardie to make it look nice.

I always viewed shipping containers as temporary storage. Something used at a work site or a remote location so items stay secure. I looked at getting one when building my house to be able to store tools and other stuff so I didn’t have to haul it back and forth.

Americans have too much shite. Why do we need so much shite that this kind of thing would even be a thought?

dude I’m with you
I just ripped out a 20x24 attic over my carport, threw everything away that was up there, threw everything that was inside the carport away, and converted the carport to a kitchen/cabana.

none of the shite I tossed will I ever miss
