Small trees in landscaping

I have two trees, one on each end of my flower beds, that I’m really tired of keeping up with. I think they are some type of holly tree. I decided I want to pull them out but I have to replace them because of HOA. What are some types of trees that can be planted close the a house and don’t get very big other than crepe myrtles? In the pic is one of the trees and I had just trimmed them back 3 months ago.

It is more of a large spreading shrub than a tree, but look up vitex, esp the Blue Shoals variety. Other good choices are an Asian magnolia, slow growing and fairly compact, and one of the newer compact small magnolia varieties.

Eastern Redbud, Vitex,Sweet Olive, Japanese Blueberry, or Bloodgood Japanese Maple

Whatever you plant, move it away from your house.
I don't understand why landscapers plant trees under the eaves of house. Yeah, it looks good for a short time. But after a few years they are in the wrong location.

Often times its really low end contractors or the home builders laborers installing it all.

I also have one on each side of my house that I think I will eliminate all together and replace with a shrub. Not sure why they planted so close to the house. They weren’t cheap and the head guy had a arboriculture degree from LSU. I’m guessing he picked them and never came show them where to be planted. I think they left way too much space between my box shrubs too.

A full to ground acadian holly or oakleaf holly would be fine right there, they are much easier to keep shaped and under the eave of the house.
the bed is just too small. you need at least 5' x 5' clear space for a medium sized tree planting.
I think those shrubs are not boxwoods but Greenspire Euonymous. They do look a little boxwood-ish so i could see where they could be mistaken.
The trees the HOA wants you to replace, do they have to be in the immediate vicinity of the house or can they be anywhere on the property? You can get a couple of nice crapes for cheap and give yourself some buffer from a neighbor or something

I just need 2 trees in front of the house. I didn’t want any trees in the middle of my front yard, that’s why they put them in with the landscaping.

put one at the front edge of the property where it doesn't block your house.
expand that bed area a little and plant a redbud. It drops its leaves but the leaves are very large and easy to clean. you get some beautiful spring blooms and great fall color
You could also go with a small variety Japanese magnolia. I think a tulip magnolia is a good one

i hope you gave them ample room. they can get quite large for a "small tree"

A house near me had two river birches planted right by the small front door stoop.

Heck, my mom had my dad plant two Leyland Cypress on either side of her front door. Nothing I could say would convince her otherwise.
They were gone within 5 years.

I rode around today and looked at some other houses and I think I’m going to go with the savannah or acadian holly. A neighbor told me my current trees are japanese blueberries. I spent all evening pruning one of them. I just don’t care for them and want a more vertical tree. Thanks for all the input.
