Sod Seams

I just laid five pallets of palisades zoysia sod and overall it looks good. There are a few spots that the seams could be a little tighter, anyone filled seams with sand/topsoil mix after laying sod?

If you lay sod, you need to use sand on pretty much all the seams.
Just very hard to get them tight. Plus sand holds water.

Yeah that's what I was thinking with sand. Should I fill all the seams even if they are tight?

Yes. Fill the seams. The edges will dry out quicker if you don’t. Use either sand or soil whichever is easiest. After filling, I usually step on the seam to compact the fill material...

Top dressing material (basically just a combo of sand/ screened topsoil) makes a great fill as well. Easier to spread than topsoil and will stay in the seams better than just sand.

Would you use top dressing to level a lawn that is less than a year old?

Use sand, but just be aware that river sand/silt will have a bunch of weed seeds in it that can cause you some problems later. I'd try to get sand from a reputable aggregate company.

I would and wish I had done mine sooner. Drives me crazy that I have a sodded yard, that looks some what smooth until you start walking on it.
Key is to make sure you don't completely cover the grass, even if using sand. I normally use a push broom or back side of a garden rake to work the sand/dirt down into the grass.
I also have Bermuda which spreads aggressively so could be different with other types of grass.
If you go with sand make sure it's "sharp" or "masonry" sand. NOT river sand.
