Our washer just died. Speed Queen has been on the radar for a very long time. General consensus is that it's a damn good washer, but how feasible is it for a family of 6 with only 3.2 cubic feet inside the tub?

Fine for 5. Don’t see why it wouldn’t be good for 6. I’d take the smaller volume if it meant getting that SQ and having to do an extra load or two. The cycle times are fast.

Have a similar sized family and have had the TR5 model about 5 years now. Thing runs like a champ every day.

Wash cycle takes less than an hour. My dryer takes longer.

It's built to last so it will hold up to frequent use.

For God's sake make sure you get the TC5 you are talking about, not the TR5.

The other models with the newer, non-agitated, "Perfect-Wash" system don't clean clothes for shite.

So much so, SQ had to come up with the TC5 after a revolt and customer complaints on the newer models.

Agitator or nothing. Unless you want dirty clothes after a wash.

Same size family, same washer, definitely big enough.

You’ll put more clothes in it that you would a front-loader of same size because of the orientation of the tub.

I recently picked up a tR7 from Stanton’s. Went back and forth on Tc5 or the 7…I know the wash cycles are different, but the 7 for $100 more comes with another 2 years of warranty. The tR7 also doesn’t have a transmission..less parts to break.
I also was looking at the Maytag commercial unit, they have a new model being released. I went into the showroom and looked at both in person, I could push the Maytag back with one hand, the SQ took an effort with two. Also, even though the switches “feel” old school, all new units have a control board behind them.

$1558 out the door on a TR7 with new hoses (they’re in stock) It washes clothes well and effectively, my dryer times have decreased also because of how good a job this does in the spin cycle

Family of 5…

Thats what we have and are a family of 6. It washes in like 20 minutes and the matching gas drier takes like 30 minutes, so it is not a problem. Hands down best purchase ever...

I only endorse the tc5 and gas dc5 as that is what we have!

I've been wanting one of these bad boys for a while now. Tired of junk washing machines. My wifes only concern was being able to wash our comforter. Will they fit a queen or king comforter.

I'm not opposed to utilizing a laundromat every once in a while for that purpose but it would be nice to not have to.

Yes, the wife washes all of our king size bedding every week at once.

I like Stanton’s, they do a great job with sales, service, delivery and removal of old unit.
My friend Kathy has been there for years, handled all my appliances when doing new construction or remodeling.

I'd never let tub size dictate my washer choice. I'd be more concerned with quality, and the Speed Queen is that in spades.

If you decide to go with a SQ, you should know the difference between the TC and TR models. This is a good short video that shows you the major difference. LINK. Some more differences. LINK. FWIW, I have the TR5, it’s very quiet and yes it cleans clothes.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. We got our TC5 delivered Friday, and my wife is impressed with the quick cycle times. As far as laundry capacity, she said she does not notice a drop off compared to our previous Whirlpool Cabrio which had 4.8 cubic feet in the drum. And she said drying time seems to be quicker because it spins better than the previous washer.
