Stray Cat Deterrents?

Anything I can do to keep them away from flower beds and such?

I had them crappin all in my raised gardens. I got some big containers of cayenne pepper and black pepper and sprinkled them all over the soil a couple times a week. They quit using my gardens as a litter box the rest of that season.

I have a pit-cur but I can't let it run around the subdivision outside the fenced back yard on account of all the children's faces it would eat.

Unfortunately, i have extensive experience with stray cats as my neighbor is the cat lady who owns a "colony" allowed by my parish. They used to shite in my garden all the time and i've gone through just about every deterrent method available (cayenne pepper, high pitched noise, automatic sprinkler, moth balls, etc). The only thing that remotely worked was the sprinkler but because I couldn't cover my entire garden with these and because the sensors don't work that well at night or with other moving things (plants blowing in the wind) it was really useless too.
The ONLY thing in my opinion that will deter a cat is to trap it and remove it. Most other solutions are just stop gaps until the cat gets smart to it and moves to another spot in the garden.

Citrus peelings, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, synthetic predator urine… or a motion activated sprinkler.
I had some outdoor cats years ago and kept them out of my garden by using cypress mulch. If it’s uncomfortable for them to walk on they won’t want to use it as a litter box. I’ve heard of some people spraying orange oil to keep cats away. They do not like citrus smells and I’ve used orange peelings in big potted plants to keep them out. Works great.

My situation is similar. A guy a few doors down traps them, pays for them to get neutered, then re-releases them, oh and feeds them. But they aren't "his" cats. He's the "compassionate" one in the equation see?. And he's got two German Shepards in his backyard to protect his plantings. So it's obviously not his problem.

I used a similar product that had more cayenne and black pepper in it. It was a granule, and worked great for getting rid of the cats that were breeding on the side of my house.
The basic theory is that they get the pepper in their paws when they walk through the product. The next time they lick their paws, it gives them a little fire. They don't go back to that area.
I just found a picture of the product I used:

I live on 20 acres and can't see my nearest neighbor, but I swear I'm smack in the middle of a cat migration route.
What about motion activated sprinklers?
ETA: Sorry, I see this has been mentioned already.

I did something similar when we lived in a subdivision. I would trap them, post a picture of the cat on the neighborhood FB page to allow its owner to claim the cat and liability for the scratches on my vehicles.... I drop 5times as may off at the shelter than were claimed. It really was productive in making people responsible for their cats.

A dog or try this. It has kept them away from my blueberry and fig trees and I was told it works for cats.

Not to sound cruel but people with cats that allow them to run free are a-hole. Unlike dogs, cats climb trees to kill birds and other tree dwelling animals. shite in flowerbeds and spray urine.

A few years ago I was having stray cat problems. I caught one and threw him in the pool! He walked on water to get out of there screaming!!! I haven’t seen any since! LoL!

Really all you can do. Might not be what you prefer but he has probably prevented dozens of kittens.

Ethylene Glycol
Lots of it, cats love that lovely treat.
