"Sudden Branch Drop" after Drought

I had never heard of this before, but it seems to be a result of 100+ temperatures.
My neighbor's Southern Red Oak looks very healthy. It is next to my driveway and is a large matrue tree. It has shed small branches through the years.
This year it has dropped two very large branches about 6 inches in diameter. They broke about two feet from the trunk. There is no visible damage to the tree from disease, squirrels, and the wood looks very healthy.
Here is a YouTube video discussing the problem several years ago in California:

Rob Perillo used the term "dry fracturing" a few weeks ago. My neighbor's live oak lost a gigantic branch due to this 3 weeks ago. Tree is perfectly healthy, the exposed tree looked so dry you could go scrape kindling off of it.

I see this from LSU Ag site (Gill):
Shade trees: Water large, established shade trees every two weeks in the absence of a deep, soaking rain. During periods of drought and without supplemental water from irrigation, the wood within the tree can develop internal cracks which can result in branch failure. Maintain health and safety by watering to a depth of 8-10 inches every two weeks.

I had a large limb on the edge of my yard broke off and fell into my yard Sat.I couldn’t figure out why.Now I know.
2011 we had a drought and the next year quite a few oak trees died.Called Oak Decline.

My FIL water oak dropped a branch last. It was solid, about 8" in diameter. Fell on his roof but luckily no damage to it.

Timely. We just had a decent sized limb drop from a big water oak at the office. Looked healthy otherwise.

Had just commented that my water oak was looking pretty beat up from the sun. Hasn't started dropping branches yet, so sounds like I better get to watering.
And the plan is to get rid of it in the next few years, but depending on where it falls I am looking at my workshop, neighbors shed, neighbors house, or my house. There is absolutely no way this tree will fall to the North and avoid all of that.

Came back from a trip last night to find a very large pecan limb hit my backyard shed. Small damage and glad it didn't land on my powerline while is was gone.

Will the limbs that dont fall repair itself or is the damage permanent?

This has been happening at my place. I thought it was odd.
