vinyl siding question

Anyone know about grades of vinyl siding? We are looking to build and see some really wavy looking siding that shows lines. Very cheap looking.
My parents have had a house for 20 years and the vinyl still looks brand new after 20 years.
Do we just ask the builder these questions?

If you are talking about vertical lines that are caused by studs being bowed then that vinyl was nailed with an air stapler and not hand nailed.

Siding grades are generally based on thickness. .4mm to about .55mm. You want to look for the .46 IMO which is a grade up from what most people use.

As mentioned that is usually a result of being nailed too tight (often with an air nailer) which doesn't allow for expansion and contraction. You often see this on the top row when they just nail through the vinyl without punching a longitudinal hole. Properly installed vinyl (even the cheap stuff) should not go wavy.
I would REALLY consider Hardiboard if you can possibly fit it into the budget. We built our first camp with vinyl and it was the main thing I wanted to change when we built our current camp.
