Any tips on how to wash hardie plank siding on a house ? Is it better to use jomax and a pressure washer or go the soft wash route with a different chemical ?

I think the soft wash is better, hard pressure wash can cause uneven oxidation marks on the hardi

I’d check the hardie manual for recommended maintenance. My friend has hardie lap siding and he’s pressure washed it without issue. I have hardie panel on my house and I use jomax and a light scrub where needed.

I use a housewash (Mold Armor) then pressure wash but from about 2' away, just for a good rinse. I don't ever get closer than that. I have a soft brush I use for stubborn spots like all the damn frog shite from the tree frogs hunting bugs all damn night.

then back up with the pressure washing wand for less hard contact with the surface. Varying distance and nozzle degrees dictates how hard the water strikes the surface.
I use the same tip on my pressure washer on my house that I use on my driveway and sidewalks with no issues, just not as close to the surface being cleaned.

I used 30 second cleaner with a little bleach in a pump sprayer and got a soft bristle brush for the bad spots.
Then rinsed with the hose. Worked like a charm.

To add to what others have said, also do not shoot water upwards at the laps. Use a ladder if necessary to rinse/wash from top down. No point in wetting your sheathing unnecessarily.

This is what I do to my hardie as well.

They make pressure washer tips for wood, use that and don’t have to be so careful about not getting too close
