Not even close. Bermuda sod is commonly laid in new neighborhoods.

Also, if I had a centipede lawn, Bermuda taking it over would be a blessing.

If common means: never, then I agree.

This is objectively idiotic.

What country are you talking about?

Bermuda lawns are just way better than centipede. I know a lot of you Louisiana baws have centipede, but it sucks. When was the last time you saw an athletic field or golf course use that sensitive grass?

Never, but it's apples/oranges. I am over 50 yoa, and I've seen two Bermuda lawns in my life, only one of which was in this town. This area is probably 70/30 St. Aug/Centipede. Mentioning Bermuda here is like mentioning torpedo down south. It's frightening.

Bermuda lawns ...

Sounds like I'd rather go with the alpha grass in Bermuda then.

I see maybe like 1% of yards in Lafayette or BR with Bermuda lawns. I wouldn’t mind having one but my neighbors would likely hate me

Is there anything cheap that'll kill Bermuda, but not the monkey grass? If not, I'll just get the Fusilade II...but it's $80 for a quart .

Sethoxydim, sold as Fertilome “Over-The-Top II”. The label says it’s safe for monkey (mondo) grass, and a ton of other plants. They don’t give it away either but you can buy it smaller quantities than Fusilade II. Need to mix it with oil concentrate (not the same as as spreader/sticker surfactant) but whoever you purchase the Over The Top from should sell the oil concentrate. It’s cheap. Don’t know where you live, but independent retail nurseries in Baton Rouge carry it. Not the box stores.

I use it to control Bermuda in centipede - works great. Ditto with Bermuda growing in lirirope.

Centipede will strangle Bermuda if the centipede is healthy. I bought a “custom” spec house 10 years ago where the front was sodded with centipede, and in 3 years it had almost completely taken over the Bermuda that grew in the back

Current house has centipede all over, but the previous owners didn’t take care of the back yard too well so I am having to fight off all kinds of shite

I use Hi Yield grass killer in my centipede to control torpedo grass

It will also roast Johnson grass

CrawDude, I don't have much to treat...just a few spots in some of our monkey grass that borders our flower beds. Can I just mix like 1-2 tsp of the Fertilome Over The Top II in like a cup of water (with some spreader sticker) and rub it on the Bermuda in those spots? Instead of making a whole mixture with a tank sprayer.

Sure - that should work just fine, just do some math and try to get the concentration right, but if you use that approach you don’t need sethoxydim or fusilade, just go ahead and use glyphosate (I.e., “Roundup”) it’s a cheaper product, and you most likely have some on hand. I think the application rate for glyphospate is 1.5 to 3 oz per gallon water (41% glyphosate). 2 tbsp = 1 oz. Do the calculation from that. Takes a couple weeks to see the effects.
