What size pots for pepper plants? Two peppers in a three gallon pot?

I do all of my hot peppers in three gallon pots but keep on picking up more varieties and potting soil is getting expensive. I doubled up some cayennes and habaneros. Anyone done this before? I am sure each plant will not produce as much as if potted alone but has anyone had decent output doing this?

I currently have 3 planted in a few proteins tubs like below.
1 pot has 2 jalapenos and a Tabasco that I planted early. They are doing great. The rest I planted late and I think the plants were root bound before I put them in. I use composted grass clipping and dog shite.

I'd say 3 gallon is the absolute min, and anything less than that is not worth your time.

Any particular reason you won't put some in the ground. That is where they will really thrive.
I mean even if you rent, surely there has to be a little bit of area a few pepper plants can go into unless it's in an apartment complex that is.

Unless you like to water, like daily, when the plants become large, 3 gal is pushing it. I find 15 gal nursery containers, about 18 in dia and 14 in tall, can easily support 2 or 3 peppers plants, and rarely need to be watered more than once a week in the heat of summer. Often you can can pick those containers up for free from landscaping crews.
Our LSU horticultural extension professor who recently wrote a book on LA vegetable gardening states in her book, 5 gal should a minimum size for 1 or 2 pepper plants, with larger being better. She probably hates to drag out hoses to water as much as I do.

Only place to plant would be our back yard which doesn’t get much good sun. I do them in containers along out front porch , breezeway etc

Yeah, they do love sun, and lots of it. Mine get sun the whole day with the exception of the first row that gets shaded around 4 in the afternoon. The rest get sunup to sundown.
