So I just had my centipede lawn aerated (Madisonville area) after the grass wouldn’t take off after fertilizing in early April. Should I fertilize again? Used a 15-0-15 in early April.

How much did you put down in April? Centipede doesn’t like a lot of fertilizer.

You can also bring in some sand and level/top dress the yard.

You’d be due for another fertilization of the centipede in a few weeks (June). How much15-0-15 did you apply the first time?

What do you mean, or rather what did you expect, when you say it didn’t take off? Centipede growth responds slowly to just about all management procedures, it’s a slow grower although I find it seems to invade landscape beds where you don’t want it pretty quickly. Filling in areas of the yard - not so fast.

Add sidewalks and driveways to that also

Add lime to your lawn w/a fertilizer spreader and a good overnight soaking - rain or sprinkler. Lime allows your soil to be more receptive to fertilizers.

You can’t rent a pretty badass one from most Home Depot’s.

Core Aerator Rental from Home Depot:

$62.00 - 4 hour rental
$88.00 - per day rental

And YOU KNOW that there will be "added fees" in there

In March I had TruGreen perform a Core Areation on my lawn - $90 total

Was that the a la carte price or is that in addition to your service plan?

The Core Areation was something "extra", outside of my service plan...

I paid $160 for 8800 sq ft core aeration this spring. Still $100 is worth my time of going to get it and doing it myself.

It actually is pretty fun.

I’m planning to buy a 40” or 48” tow behind soon. They’re only around $200. That plus some cinderblocks or iron for weight.

It did look like fun. But I have a 5 and a 2 year old and my wife and I work full time. Gotta pick and choose for now.

Core Aerator Rental from Home Depot:

I'm going this afternoon to rent one. I called ahead to make sure they have it. There's only one in the area, so I'll be pissed if I get there this afternoon and it's gone.

I'd be interested to know the total cost of the rental once it's all "said and done"

Well, I know there’s a $150 deposit required. I’ll report back after I use it, if I get it.
