I just bought a home in north Dallas which has a lot of stickers and clovers in the yard. Is there a weed killer that will take care or both? I know I’m running out of time to kill these stickers before they become painful

Full yard or patches you can spot spray? I’d probably just use Fertilome Weed-Free-Zone or another brand of “Trimec” herbicide with surfactant as long as the temps are below 85 F
Follow directions on the label. Weather forecast for Dallas indicates you should be OK.

If the stickers are Lawn Burweed that is a cool season annual weed where seeds germinate in late fall/early winter. By this time I’m sure the seeds have already formed. A fall pre-emergent will greatly reduce the problem with those. They will start dying on their own when temps start hitting the 90s.

I don’t have my pics available. They have not turned into full blown stickers yet with the sharp seed or what ever you call it. It’s probably too much to spot spray imo.

Used by itself or combined with atrazine?

When used by it’s self (weed free zone) and spot spraying I think the mixing rate is 2 oz per gallon. In fact I found some today (burweed) and will spray it tomorrow.

I’ve used it numerous times on lawn burweed and smoked it. But the bigger the burweed the harder it is to kill.

I’d use this to spray the entire lawn as long as temps are below 85 F.

Is your St Augustine fully greened up? If so, consider using this (note it will control most lawn weeds, not just V Buttonweed). This product doesn’t have the temperature limitation, but your St Augustine should be fully greened up before using it.

Anticipate having having to make a second spray 3 or 4 weeks from now, and if so, you probably have to use MSM Turf if the temps exceed 85.

ronk lives in Dallas and he can can provide you some tips. If he see this thread, he will jump in and respond.

St Augs in Dallas are safe now for msm. Plenty of Site Ones here to get them from. If you haven’t done it yet get a bag of fert (I don’t buy my fert from site one ((it’s top quality though)) craw can tell you which one they have. 24% N) and a bag of arena.

Sprayed my yard for these about 2 weeks ago with 24d and msm and it’s just about all dead.

Remember a fully mature, hardened off weed will resist death. Mow it to get it actively growing.

Use 2 oz per gallon of the Weed-Free-Zone if you are spot spraying the burweed - that is a labeled recommended spot spraying rate. It’s what i use if not mixing it with atrazine. That should work - as ronk said, the more mature the weed the more difficult it is to kill.

To the OP if you stop at a Site One Landscape Supply for your herbicide and fertilizer, I purchase the LESCO 24-2-11 40% Polycoat lawn fertilizer for use on St Augustine. I bought some several days ago - about $26 per 50 lb bag. Apply at 4 lbs per 1000 sq ft of lawn.
