What's the best and most affordable tiller?

I bought a tiller from home depot several years ago for around 500 dollars and it lasted me 3 years and I never could get it to crank again and got quotes for repair but that was going to be more than what it was worth. I got rid of it and don't even remember the brand.

I own the Honda FG110 and it is very powerful for its size. Make sure you use only non ethanol fuel. If you need something bigger I would just rent it from Home Depot.

Get a Bobcat MT100 and Toro Soil Cultivator attachment. About 40k.
Jk
Just rent one when you need it for $75 a day. It is much more efficient.

I have a little 2-stroke Mantis that has been great. I know it's at least 15 years old. I got it used from my grandmother. I had to put a new carburetor on it and run a new throttle cable, but that's it. Runs like a champ. Starts up right away.
Have you checked the carburetor on your tiller? That's usually the first thing to go. They swap out super easy.

Unless you're using it regularly and have a place to store it, this is probably the best route.
Extra tip, don't rent from Home Depot. Their prices are always higher than going to a rental place. I've rented from Sunbelt locally, and they're generally high on price also, but if you can find a small mom and pop rental place, they're usually much more fair on price. I also used a mom and pop quote with Sunbelt one time and they matched the price.

It will just be about 1/4 an acre

You'd probably be best off hiring a company to till that up. Problem with tillers is that you normally only use them once a year, maybe. Then the machine sits for 10+ months. That's not good.

Just? Try to find a baw with a small tractor and pull behind disks.
