Preferably somewhere in the Acadiana region

Any particular reason you want to go with cypress other than aesthetics?
I've found the cypress you get today is not going to last near as long as the old stuff. I've built swings and other outdoor furniture out of cypress and have had components of them rot, especially if not painted or sealed in some way.
The only place I deal with for cypress is Jones & Jones on Hwy. 1 heading up toward Mansura, La. It is a family owned small mill business and they deal with all types of dimensional lumber and have pecky, sinker and regular cypress in stock.

Trying to help out my father in law. He wants to replace a picket fence with cypress boards and we’re having trouble locating

Most cypress you buy is young growth which has a lot of sap wood. Not much better then pine.

Use cedar. Save cypress forests.

OP, try craigslist for old cypress boards which will be your best bet. Those will last. 4/4 lumber runs about $2 SF.

+1 for cedar.
Cypress will rot faster than your kids teeth on Halloween night.

FWIW I agree on not using cypress if possible but I would absolutely call and talk to Jones and Jones in Lettsworth. They will honestly answer any questions you have. Absolutely the nicest, most honest people I have ever done business with. The place on Hwy 190 by Port Barre is a joke. I have bought a lot of cypress. I stopped by there to feel them out before a big order and was told they didn’t have time to talk to me or answer any questions.
