I occasionally see LSU Purple, but mostly it seems to be Brown Turkey at the local nurseries. I would like to have at least one each of the LSU varieties.

Cleggs sells the LSU Gold. The other varieties developed by Dr. Ed O’Rouke with the LSU AgCenter are harder to come by, somewhat rare but available if you are patient, and might have to be mail ordered.

Almost Eden in Merry LA near TX sells some of the LSU developed varieties (small 4 inch pot) LINK, they are out of some but you can get on their notification list. I’ve ordered from them.

Durio Nursery in Opelousas sells many of them but you’ll need to contact Dalton Durio via Facebook - it a part-time business for him, he’s a full-time landscaper by trade, so it’s not a business you can drive to to shop and buy, he’ll ship or you can arrange a meeting at his home/business. Check photos on the Durio Nursery Facebook page for his listings of the fig varieties he produces - dozens of varieties including most of the LSU O’Rouke developed varieties.

Just Fruits and Exotics in Crawford FL sells some of the LSU varieties and will ship but you’ll pay as the shipping will cost as much as the fig trees LINK but the plants they ship are high quality (many are out of stock now). I’ve ordered a couple plants (not figs) from them and would not hesitate to order from them again for something I really wanted but expect to pay.

Lastly, there is a guy in the Chackbay area near Thibodaux or maybe Gramercy or Luling, I forget, that produces and sells many fig varieties, including the LSU varieties, but unfortunately I seem to have misplaced the persons name and contact information as it was given to me by someone else - I’ve not been there. If I can locate the persons name and contact info I’ll update this post, but he doesn’t have a regular retail nursery business - this is also side business for him as I understand.

ETA: Found it. The other guy is Brian Rodrigue in Chackbay, LA. He goes by CajunB on Ourfigs.com. I found this email from a eBay site where he sells fig plants and cuttings. cajunb307atgmail...... I’ve never been in touch with him. I was provided a phone number but don’t want to post it here without his permission but if you want to provide me an email I can forward it to you or just try his email first.

Don’t be shocked by the high price and difficulty in finding of these less known LSU fig varieties - they apparently are in high demand around the USA and few people have mature trees to produce cuttings from to produce plants to sell to others that want them.

CrawDude- Ed O’Rourke!!!!!!!What a great guy. I got to know him when I majored in horticulture. Haven’t heard his name in years. He was one hell of a smart man and one hell of a character.
Thanks for the memories old friend I’ve never met.
Good on ya.

I knew Dr. O’Rouke as well, and he was good friend of a one of my close friends and colleagues. Dr O’Rouke always gave my friend with fresh cut flowers from his home greenhouse to bring to his office.

For the OP here is a list of most, and maybe not all, of the LSU fig cultivars, with LSU Purple and LSU Gold the easiest to acquire. If I recall correctly I think Dr. O’ Rouke thought the Champagne cultivar was the best tasting fig of all the varieties he developed.
