Model WRS588FIHZ00

Ran the diagnostic on it and it turns out to be a very common problem. I’ve maker will no longer turn so it doesn’t allow water to come thru. Creates a repetitive knocking noise.

Has anyone had to fix this before? If it’s just some type of motor mechanism fix or would it be better to replace the ice maker altogether?

Does your Whirlpool have a crushed ice and cubed ice setting? The reason I ask is we recently purchased a Whirlpool with the different ice settings and noticed after 1wk of use, the ice machine wasn't turning out ice although the bin full. We were just getting the noise when trying to get ice.
Turns out after using crushed ice, it had frozen and blocked the outlet thus not letting the dispenser rod to turn. Once I found it was jammed, I got the stuck ice out and lowered the freezer temp. Haven't had a problem since.

It does but we only keep it on cubed. Not sure what would've caused this other than the mechanism becoming misaligned/breaking on its own. It will try to turn and that's what create the knocking sound. Water won't pour out because it's stuck.

Went ahead and got the replacement part from GenuineReplacementParts.

Will hopefully get a positive update from the Mrs. (no pics) that ice is coming out the dispenser. $65 and 5 minutes of work.
