Would you put a ceiling fan on a ceiling that is only 8 feet high?

My neighbor has an old home with low ceilings…he wants a ceiling fan in his bedroom.

The ceiling is actually 8'2"… Ceiling fan would be centered close to the foot of the bed.

I am suggesting a tower fan in the corner of the room. He is 6'2".

I know there are a low profile ceiling fans, but this would be pretty low

Thoughts?

Over your bed? Absolutely. Must have. No problem at all. The shorter rod means less chance of it rattling and waking you up anyway. Use fan rated hanger though.

Would it matter to you if it wasn't fully over the bed?

just be sure to use the shortest downrod available. It will be fine.

Not to me but I don’t know. I’ve seen charts on how low they are supposed to hang but don’t know off top of head. Doesn’t sound like a problem though. Probably just use the short rod.

No downrod, they have a flush mount for low ceilings. Have them in my kids rooms.

Yes. Have you never been in a 70’s ranch house?

People have been putting ceiling fans in 8' ceilings for a long arse time. A hugger fan will be less than 12" leaving Kalunda with solid foot to jump around

I've got an older ranch style house, 8 ft ceilings throughout, with ceiling fans in every room. They don't have down rods at all. The fan motor mounts flush with the ceiling.

They make what the call a hugger fan which doesn't use a down rod.

Us poor folks do it lol the time. Ceiling fans are designed to be placed on 8 foot ceilings with the typical down rod provided. Low profiles are designed for lower ceilings or where there may be other reasons you need more clearance (like having a very tall family) but they do not move air as well. Also reverse flow for eliminating heat stratification in winter is fairly useless for anything lower than 9 foot.

I worked in a home improvement store during college back in the 80s. I did sell ceiling fans and went to a few of the training sessions provided by Hunter. That’s where my info comes from back in the stone ages.

I have a couple of Hunter (white) flush mounts that look great and are quiet. I'm certain they have led bulbs now, but I replaced the incandescents with leds.

This and same. The profile is incredibly slim. Probably stick down 8-10" and blast some air.

Have one in all 4 bedrooms with 8’ ceilings. 8’ used to be the standard so not sure why it’s out of the ordinary.

They used to make ceiling fans that mounted flush to the ceiling. It has been years since I had a house with 8' ceilings so I have not shopped them lately.

That's why they make flush mount ceiling fans. If you read a ceiling fan box it tells you what length downrod to use for a ceiling height.
