Evangel and West Monroe.

Can some body please tell me what happened to these two Louisiana football powerhouses. I remember they use two crank out top notch D1 prospects every year now they haven't been making no noise. It seems like Zachary high is the new West Monroe and U High is the new Evangel imo.

Calvary and the shite hole that is Shreveport pushed a lot of kids to a much safer and growing Bossier city school system. Haughton, Airline, Parkway are producing a good bit of D1 talent last 5-10 years and are extremely competitive in 5a now. Same for North Desoto as well. I’m sure West Monroe is dealing with a similar situation with Ruston, Sterlighton, Ouachita Christian, etc.

West Monroe hasn't been able to take players from Monroe anymore. They would have normally taken Heard and Campbell from Neville back in the day. Also program took a dip after Coach Shows passed away.

Shows coached my sons at Pineville before going to W. Monroe.
Intense, demanding, fair.

I don't know or care who down voted you on this, but I dare them drive around Shreveport in parts that were considered good to above good places to buy homes just 10 years ago. Chuck Norris wouldn't do it.

Sadly far too much of my home state is getting this way. I come home to BR twice a year and it feels more and more dilapidated.

Shreveport is horrible. I thought I was on patrol in Iraq looks really bad in certain places.

During both their peaks they had 8plus. Their players were good and older than everyone else. Both schools were big in the weight room before the rest of Louisiana. After 8 plus was stopped and weight programs grew in other areas schools closed the gap.
When evangel was spreading everyone out coaches had no idea how to defend it. Cover 0, 1, 2, and 3 was basically it. Not the same anymore.

People are moving out of the city into the surrounding small towns everywhere. Like the other guy suggested, Shreveport people are moving to Stonewall, Bossier, Benton. Monroe people are moving to Sterlington and Calhoun.

As with anything, change is inevitable. The footprint and the tax base some of these other schools/cities have to offer ultimately puts more resources in the schools. 10-15 years, we will see newer schools show up that have adapted with time

Yeah had to come back to edit this but Brady James was at Wossman and ended up at West Monroe. We all thought they recruited when I was in school because they had talent loaded even on the basketball team had a player from overseas. I think some parents just moved to West Monroe to work at the paper mills though the more I think about it.

I know Bastrop had those great years after Hurricane Katrine having all the New Orlean players. After IP papermill closed people left. I know alot moved to Dallas area to work alot of people in Monroe and Shreveport do the same come to DFW for work. I think that has alot to do with talent leaving jobs.
It's so many Louisiana people out here in DFW and Houston. I'm in DFW I go to alot of bars that nothing but Louisiana people hang out and they are all over.

When Evangel got reclassified to a 2-3A school they could no longer recruit players. Some coaches and kids also went to Calvary so it diluted their base.

You pretty much described all of Louisiana.

The days of those two schools ruling the roost are long gone.
Demographics have changed, coaches left/passed away, and that parent booster support system just isn’t there anymore.

Josh Booty’s twin sons play for evangel right now. John Curtis has proven to be the only school who can continue being elite over several decades. Depending on coaching and player cycles, schools will have a hard time maintaining that level of play.
