IMG Academy tuition - how???

People comparing bishop Gorman to an IMG West just got me thinking… how much does it really cost families to send their kids to IMG? Since it seems like so many blue chip players move there, I figure it can’t be much or there’s really good financial aid for good players. However, tuition and board is $ 87,900 for football and basketball!!! That’s significantly more than any of the Ivies. And financial aid says they have “limited amount of financial aid available”… does this mean the blue chips get all the finaid? Otherwise, I don’t see how families be sending their kids from the hood to $80,000+ boarding school. Any insights?

Golf and tennis families subsidize football and basketball.
The vast majority of the football and basketball families aren’t paying tuition

Make the kids that go pro hire their agents and get that tuition money back real quick

Not every player on their roster is a 5 star they’ve brought in. Most of the high profile players are only there for 6 months and are early enrollees in college. Some of it is subsidized through various other sports and sponsorships.

They also have regular students and they offset the cost plus the player paying back if they go pro

Nick Bollettieri and the Bollettieri tennis academy bankroll the top tier talent. Nick gets paid back when they go pro.

If I’m not mistaken IMG also has 2-3 football teams, for lower class and average kids. Rich families who just want the kids to have an experience I guess.

I lived in Sarasota back in the nineties. I knew a girl that was an instructor there. This is were Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Monica seles, and Anna kournakova trained at. Back then to stay and train there was over 100k. They have awesome facilities.

Ever been there? It’s a country club with the best training possible. No value for my son’s position…but damn it’s nice.

Yes.

Watch the movie King Richard about the father of Serena and Venus. It gives a great look at how these types of places operate. They bring you in young and they get their payoff when you make it big.

The local private schools here give schollies to the football, basketball, and some baseball players. The other students tuition pays for those schollies.
A friend told me his HS aged DLineman and his 3 younger kids (non-athletes) received free school for the family. The school really wanted the player. The younger ones went back to public school after the DLineman finished up. Hooray for them.
