Sorry if it’s been talked about recently but I knew he went into the portal last year but never signed with anyone else?? If he has his head on straight I’m sure he’d be a huge help in our secondary cause the kid can play.

I'm not sure a guy that didn't even play football last season is the answer to all our prayers at safety.

He had his opportunity at big time college football and he pissed it away. You’ll likely never see him suit up for anyone in a meaningful way.

As someone who doesn't follow recruiting closely, the disdain Jacoby Matthews is getting here is confusing. I recall we really wanted him as an 5 star out of high school. Then as a freshman he beat out Jardin Gilbert to start at A&M. We wanted Matthews to transfer here after last season when their coaches changed, but ended up with Gilbert instead. Matthews then had some kind of falling out at A&M so didn't play this season. Now all of a sudden we don't want him, despite Gilbert being kind of trash and safety being a huge need? What am I not understanding?

For a lot of people it's boils down to this:
Do they think a player will end up at LSU?
If yes, then he is a superstar in the making. If he's a 3 star, he is the most underrated 3 star ever.
If no, then he is an overrated bum, who we didn't really want anyway.

Head case mercenary that hasn’t been on a team for a year, what about BK’s portal process makes you think he’s even getting a look

He wasn't on a team last year because he entered the portal in the spring window and can't transfer in conference during the spring window. The two teams that he had his eyes on were LSU & Ole Miss so he went Juco this semester and is looking for a new place now. Don't necessarily understand why there is all of this hate on him, would be an upgrade over Gilbert to play next to Spears.

His issue started with making an agreement with Kelly then signing day cutting bigger deal with A$M…lying to Kelly and staff repeatedly. Also, he had a parent that was VERY involved in process and rubbed a lot of coaches raw. Assistants would have to do a lot of convincing for Kelly to even get to warm with he and family.

There's got to be more to it. The kid could of had a decent NIL deal just to show up somewhere...anywhere.

I haven't seen the guy play so I won't comment on his ability other than to say in general starting over Gilbert is no Herculean task. Gilbert did NOT impress me at all. He was part of the 3 headed secondary guys of him, Ryan, and Burns that should NOT have been starting for a good SEC team which LSU clearly is. As far as the "disdain" goes, it was widely known that on a mercenary scale out of HS, he was a 10. I realize we are in pay for play mode now, and he definitely wanted to get paid. And also, he does seem to be a head case as another poster said. Although by SEC rules he could not have joined an SEC team from the portal last year without sitting out, there are well over 100 FBS teams he could have joined IF they wanted him. Apparently playing football was not a high priority for him. Hope that explains it.
