Looking back at the 2022 high school recruiting class

Good lord it was bad. Just looking at the high school commits, I think this was the first class after Coach O's dismissal, but for people still wondering why LSU had such a drop off....
Harold Perkins
Quency Wiggins - Gone
Will Campbell
Walker Howard - Gone
Emery Jones
Laterrance Welch - Gone
Demario Tolan - Gone
Jordan Allen - Non factor
Landon Ibieta - Non factor
Bo Bordelon - Non factor
Jaelyn David-Robinson - Gone
Tygee Hill - Gone
Mason Taylor
Fitz West - Gone
Nathan Dibert - Gone?
8 of 15 commits no longer on the roster and 3 not playing any type of meaningful snaps. So 4 contributing players. That isn't sustainable.
We took 15 transfer players that year too. After this season, if Wingo does not come back, there will only be 3 of those 15 players still on the team. So 7 guys in a recruiting class that will be playing next year for the squad. that's rough
So while some people might not be happy with the star power of this recent recruiting class, I think we will hit on more than 7 players out of this 30.

Campbell
Jones
Perk
Are all-american potential
Mason Taylor is an extremely solid TE.
Bordelon & Allen show promise.
Not a complete dud of a class by any means for only taking 13.

The end of the Ogeron years. Now do 20 and 21.

1 it was a class caught in the middle of a coaching change. They took an abnormal amount of transfers, too
2 you are not yet calibrated to transfer portal football. It won’t always be this extreme, but if you aren’t playing by year 3, chances are you will bolt. The new rules are adjusted to combat this on the scholarship limit side of things, so lsu is ok. There has been a ton of turnover with the bottom of LSU’s roster, even before this. It shouldn’t be that new or shocking to you. These guys had no future at lsu.

Thankfully, 3 of the guys we got are foundational pieces for this team. With such a small number retained and playing major roles, at least we got that from it.
That said, those numbers are pretty rough. It’s a good thing that 22 portal class was so good.

Dibert kicked off this year.
4 potential 3-4 year starters out of a 13 man transitional class is not bad by any means.
Plus Allen, Ibieta and Bordelon were just redshirt freshmen this year. I’m not ready to write them off.
Most of these players committed to Orgeron and Kelly honored their commitment.

Ibetia was injured all this year I believe, Allen looked decent at the end of the year, Kelly and Davis seem to love Borderlon

Tolan was going to be so good this year. Probably beat Bama and/or Ole Miss with him playing over Speights and Penn.

39 scholly players remained when BK got here so he signed a bunch of upper classroom in transfer portal and won the sec west. Where’s the complaint? BK even said that wasn’t sustainable and would now focus mainly of HS recruits

Welcome to the Transfer Portal. New era of college football.

Of course they were non factors there was a massive amount of talent infant of them. Unless something terrible happened they should have been non-factors. With the portal lots of classes will have attrition in year two for guys.

With the numbers crunch that we have I think ibeta should look for a new place to play. Him and langlois are both guys that have already been passed up by freshman and are just taking up spots that we need. I know no one wants to hear that and some people on this board will probably defend those 2 players to death, but they simply aren’t lsu caliber players and are currently just taking up spots we need.

Agreed. It sucks seeing kids ruin their shot at millions.

Yolanda got kicked off Auburn, I don't even think he's on a team, try harder

We used to judge a class 3 years down the road. That shite is gone now. It’s one year contracts.

Didn’t Bordelon’s mom get the gat?

All teams are getting hit hard by NIL and the transfer portal. The problem with LSU is we have no depth to fall back on, and as a result, you have to play players that are nowhere near ready to start but we have no choice.

Those 2 players aren’t lsu caliber
Maybe, have you really seen the play? It’s not that uncommon to put it together your junior or senior year. Im not too worried about it either way.
