Question for the RB regarding the East & West Campus Apartments
Posted on 8/8/15 at 1:15 am

I know that only 49% of LSU athletes get to live in the East Campus Apartments & West Campus Apartments, due to NCAA restrictions against schools having "athletic dorms". Which is a shame, because LSU would have an incredible recruiting advantage...
So my question would be, where does the other 51% of LSU athletes live? I know that unlike regular LSU students, LSU athletes get to live there as freshman.
I guess I never payed attention before as to how good LSU's student housing has become over the years.
TIA for any info!

Thanks, I was looking for the on-campus options that LSU offers. Mainly because that's where most foreign-born LSU athletes live in at first.

I doubt that they are just staying in some random dorms though maybe the honors dorms?

They get a stipend for housing and can pretty much live where they want right?

West Campus and even East Campus aren't really very nice. Maybe 15 years ago. But imagine 15 years of Giant football and basketball players living in them, add on all the baseball ragers. Most athletes I used to know lived elsewhere and wanted nothing to do with west campus.

My brother cuts Ben Simmons hair and some of the other athletes Ben told me he and some others are going to be living at the standard the new place near the west campus apartments

Others are treated like regular students. I lived next to a bunch of players when I was in school there. I lived in Oak Brook

Ummm...

Forty-nine percent of all LSU athletes live in either East or West Campus apartments. More than anywhere else, on or off campus. All I wanted to know was where the other 51% lived, and it appears that currently, there are many answers to that.
In any case, this question is moot. NCAA bylaws regarding athletic dorms are expected to change soon. And as a result LSU, along with most other power five schools, expect to construct true athletic dorms.
Hopefully, this will allow schools to better supervise and monitor their athletes.

For some reason this thread is a bit creepy

I couldn't tell you one that lives in ECA. It's either WCA or off campus. The Edge all that. I know Odell stayed in highland-campus crossings, so like that stuff.
Oh and btw all those little pics of the model apts in WCA look all nice but that place looks like crap at least any apt I've ever been in in there. My boy lived above T Magee and threw parties in there and wrecked that place horribly. T Magee was in attendance many nights lmao.

I heard a lot of athletes would live there. Is it affiliated with lsu?

I was wondering about this too. Sterling Burbank is brand new also and it has a freaking LAZY RIVER that runs through the property. If players get to live in these places it would be a huge plus for recruiting.

I was in the same WCA building as Mo Claiborne and Rueben Randle. CSB
And I think you are misinterpreting the rule. I thought that any particular housing unit had to be half non athletes, not that half had to live off campus or in another unit. That's why I lived in WCA.

Nope. It's developed by Landmark Properties.
And it won't just have a lazy river, but also a roof deck pool...

We're basically saying the same thing. As it stands now, athletic dorms...dorms housing only athletes...are forbidden.
That may be changing, and soon. As I pointed out before, it allows colleges to better cater to their athlete's needs and also make supervision easier.

I see. I figured any athletes that wanted to live in WCA could, as long as half of the residents were non-athletes. I don't know if there is enough room for everyone, but I figured football players got priority over tennis players, etc.
I hated being so far from the rec center, really the only downside, but not an issue for athletes.

Oh no, big no no, that is. If for no other reason, Title IX. Basically every sport has to get the same level of accommodations, men or women.
I have no idea how it is now, but it used to be that soccer and track were housed mainly in ECA, while football was in WCA.
Frankly, I don't think there is a policy anymore as to who goes where. Athletes just get to move into ECA & WCA as freshmen, whereas regular students have to wait until their sophomore year before they can apply.
