re: Was Justin Jefferson just a grade risk?

He didn’t have that physical make up coming out of high school. He was nowhere near as athletic as his brothers and was very skinny.
That's not correct, I see a ton of 175 pound senior WRs getting ranked four and five stars. Jefferson weighed in at 175 pounds. Plus his senior film was outstanding.
The recruiting services just missed completely with respect to Justin, and never mind that his two brothers were also former LSU players. There is just no excuse for their gross incompetence. 247 ranked him about as low as a 3 star as you can be, Rivals ranked him a 2 star, and ESPN didn't even bother to rank him.

They should raise the rates they charge.

175 is being generous. He was awfully skinny in high school. He a late bloomer, it happens. That’s not a knock on the guy

Agree, so much of recruiting services is about the early developers, early puberty guys who blow up early in their high school careers. JJ got better in college.
You see this in baseball recruiting too, colleges offering guys who have yet to play an inning of varsity HS baseball but looked good on the summer circuit in their age group.

I'm just happy it all worked out for him. The progress he made was amazing. He believed in Joe- and Joe damn sure believed in him. He was fearless, out there.
Couldn't be happier for this kid. It was meant to be.

Thanks, Ree for keeping us all straight. Those of us who have other things to do than troll TD 24/7.

Generous? If 175 pounds is being generous, then why does he say he weighed 175 pounds when he came in and why did both recruiting profiles at the time list him as weighing 175 pounds? So who is lying Justin or the recruiting services?
Do me a favor, go buy a damn clue.

Dude it's possible to just miss on guys sometimes....here's a list of just 3 star guys that were way underrated that are pros
Deion Jones is the best player at his position in today's NFL and he was a very low rated 3 star player...So was Duke Reily, Jalen Mills, Jalen Collins, Morris Claiborne, Dj Chark, Russel Gage, Alfred Blue....among many many others. Guys get overlooked. Especially at the skill positions...

Here is a 247 Link. Says he ran a 4.88 in high school.
According to the industry generated 247Sports Composite, Jefferson was the No. 1,264 ranked player in the country, the No. 308 wide receiver and the state of Louisiana’s No. 76 ranked player.
Charles Power, 247Sports national recruiting analyst, made sure to point out the difference between Jefferson now and the player he was before arriving in Baton Rouge. Power tweeted, “LSU's Justin Jefferson went 4.44 on first run...ran 4.88 in high school.” LINK

quote:Not really even though I agree because of his athleticism he would have made a great WR too. I have said in the past that Jordan Jefferson just got a raw deal by coming to LSU during the Les Miles days and playing in that shite of an offense, the kid was made to play in a wide open RPO type of offense just like the one Joe Burrow just exploded in. He didn't deserve the treatment that he got at LSU playing in that unpredictable Miles-Cameron mess of an offense, that's all on them. In fact he begged Miles during the NC game against Alabama to open the offense up like they were supposedly practicing to do leading up to that game, and when the game came Miles stubbornly went right back to the smash mouth football against a stone wall of a Alabama DLine and LB's. Lol
His older brother is an underrated athlete who was like 6'4-6'5 and ran a solid 4.5. He gets a lot of hate but I think if he started his career at LSU at WR he would've been where his little brother is now.
Jefferson's career would have turned out different if he had played in that type of offense, but oh well.

2 things:
1. Jordan Jefferson never played for Cameron, the Wizard and Stud the Dud were the OCs during his time in Baton Rouge. Cameron's first year was 2013, Metts last season.
2. I never would say that a 2009-2011 era Miles Offense was unpredictable; rather is was very predictable.

You could watch his film and easily see that he was much faster than 4.88 in his senior season. By the way, the correct official combine time is 4.43.
The recruiting services are now scrambling to cover their asses. However, there is no other way to perceive it, they were completely wrong with respect to Justin Jefferson and almost cost him his career. Furthermore, Jefferson is far from the only recruit they have flubbed on. I'm sure they have ruined more than just a few careers.

[quote]There was an interview with his HS coach that was posted on this board recently.
You should probably read it.[

Can you please provide a link. But my point is, these services should stick to rattling an athlete based on his talent. Not there job to figure out their eligibility. Let the coaches do that. A kid who barely qualifies is just as good as one with a high GPA.

Ree, How does that play out in rattling his talent?
Posted on 3/1/20 at 11:49 am to NattyTiger19
I assume the recruiting services didn’t really even look at him since there was really no recruiting battle, and that he didn’t go to a ton of non LSU camps

Lol what? You think colleges rely on recruiting services that are made for fans that much?

Hester said on his show that the grade risk thing was a bunch of bull. Said he was not a grade risk and that the recruiting evaluators just missed on him and that narrative somehow got put out there.

His own high school coach said he had to pass one class late to be eligible or he was going JUCO.
