Elite 2027 quarterback recruit planning to visit LSU in the coming months

LSU will be getting a visit from one of the best quarterback recruits in the class of 2027.

Trae Taylor took to social media to announce his top schools. LSU was joined by Notre Dame, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, and Texas A&M.

"The very first time I visited LSU, I absolutely fell in love with the campus and culture," Taylor wrote in the post.

Taylor is yet to lock in a date to visit LSU, but the Tigers will host Taylor in the coming months. LSU is involved with several high-profile quarterbacks in the class of 2027. Along with Taylor, LSU is recruiting Elijah Haven, a Baton Rouge native who has the chance to finish as the top-ranked player in his class.

Garrett Nussmeier's younger brother, Colton, is also emerging as one of the top quarterback recruits in the class.

Its early in the cycle, but LSU appears to be in a good spot with Haven, Nussmeier, and Taylor.

According to Rivals, Taylor is the the No. 4 ranked quarterback in the class and the No. 14 overall prospect.

Very. At least at the moment. I’m expecting him to shoot up the rankings this upcoming year.

They'll all get huge nil offers and the one thst is the lowest thst we can afford, we'll get. Basically the crumbs of the qb everyone else is least interested in

Why LSU football will land an elite quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class
Will Rosenblatt, LSU Wire

LSU football missed out on an elite quarterback in its 2025 recruiting class. The Tigers held on to five-star Bryce Underwood all year before the top prospect flipped to Michigan in November. LSU was left without a fallback option.

LSU will hope to sign a blue-chip quarterback in 2026, but today, we're going to talk about 2027. This class stands out when it comes to LSU recruiting quarterbacks.

According to Rivals, the top two quarterbacks in the class are Louisiana natives. That's before we even get to Colton Nussmeier, the younger brother of LSU starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. That gives LSU natural connections to three of the top quarterbacks in the class.

Along with those three, four-star Trae Taylor announced plans to visit LSU in the coming months.

Despite the Underwood situation, LSU offensive coordinator and QBs coach Joe Sloan is known as one of the top QB recruiters in the country. Tiger fans should feel good about their chances of landing an elite QB in 2027. Here's a closer look at the prospects.

Elijah Haven

Haven is a Baton Rouge native and plays his high school ball at Dunham. He picked up an LSU offer in September and was a frequent visitor to LSU's campus. Haven plays basketball too and LSU head coach Brian Kelly was at Dunham to take in a basketball game during the recent contact period.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Haven is the No. 1 ranked QB in the class and the No. 3 overall prospect. With a strong junior and senior year, Haven has a chance to finish as the top-ranked prospect in the class.

Haven has all the tools you look for in an elite quarterback. The Tigers are considered the early favorite.

Peyton Houston

The industry is still debating Houston's ranking. Rivals slots Houston as the No. 2 quarterback in the class, only behind Haven. 247Sports and On3 are yet to rank the Louisiana native.

Houston is just under 6 feet, but he makes up for it with his arm talent. He has a smooth release and puts the ball on a rope to the far side of the field. Houston knows how to put touch on the deep ball. He can improvise and throw on the run, too.

The 2025 season is a big one for Houston. He has a chance to emerge as one of the elite passers in his class.

Colton Nussmeier

LSU fans know the Nussmeier name by know. Colton Nussmeier's older brother, Garrett, signed with LSU in 2021 and is preparing for his fifth-year with the program. Doug Nussmeier, Garrett and Colton's father, just accepted the Saints offensive coordinator job after winning a Super Bowl with the Eagles as quarterbacks coach.

Colton Nussmeier is the No. 3 ranked quarterback in the class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. On3, 247Sports, and Rivals all rank Nussmeier's top six at his position. That's a strong consensus given how early it is in Nussmeier's recruitment.

You can tell Nussmeier is the son of a quarterbacks coach. The lefty shows remarkable pocket maturity for his age, stepping up and delivering the throws.

LSU has a strong relationship with the Nussmeier family, making LSU the early favorite here.

Trae Taylor

Earlier this week, four-star Illinois native Trae Taylor released his top schools and announced his intention to visit LSU.

Per Rivals, Taylor is the No. 4 ranked quarterback in the class. He's already able to sort through tight windows and deliver throws and has the athletic ability to be a playmaker.

It's more likely LSU lands one of the quarterbacks it has a connection to, like Haven or Nussmeier, but Taylor is a name to keep an eye on.

That Rosenblatt guy was an a-hole, right?

Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

Is that what you said when LSU got the top transfer class this offseason, got a heisman QB in Jayden, and somehow retained Nuss who would've got millions going to the draft in a weak QB class? Nuss is likely making several million to play this season and is a heisman favorite. LSU is not poor. Stop trying to push this narrative.
