Those two Alabama scores show you how much the game has changed.

Our 2019 offense is still the GOAT.

The 2011 defense would give a TON of teams issues based on the coverage ability of those corners and nickels. Heck 2010 would be a tough match-up from a defensive perspective.

The difference is the use of TEs and backs versus 2011 and ability to pound the football.
2011 was built to cover tempo and fast receivers. Ask Oregon.

I keep telling people this, go look at those 2011 games and see what our offensive stats were and it will make you appreciate even more how good that defense was.

7 three-and-out's in the first half and 53 pass yards total in the SECCG and still won 42-10. They only topped 200 passing yards 3 times all season, had 105 yards passing in the 52-3 win over Ole Miss.

not worth comparing the hypothetical "if" 2011 team won the title bc if that happened, Les doesn't get fired 4 yrs after he wins the natty. If Les doesn't get fired, then we don't get 2019.

2019 is tGoat

Maybe best team ever, probably the most physically dominant in all 3 phases ever. Beat something like 3 bcs bowl winners, and 2-3 conference winners.

I've never felt like we were more dominant as a total football team. What Joe and 2019 did was video game stupid on offense, but 3/4 the year it was a struggle on defense.

2011 special teams was insane also

Cant really compare. That 2011 squad was at the end of a "RUN FIRST" era. That D was built to stop the run and short pass. And they accomplished that for sure.

Those games were insane. So many of them were:

Nothing's really happening...
Nothing's really happening...
Defense does something incredible, offense takes advantage, other team panics, defense does something else, other team falls apart...
LSU is now somehow up by 4 TDs and game no longer competitive...

I don't recall being worried much in 2011 other than Bama.

One team had a QB, the other team did not. The 03 and 07 teams would have beaten the 11 team

I remember sitting in the first couple of rows behind the bench for the game @ Tennessee, and noticing how much more violent it sounded when our Defense hit them vs their defense hitting us.

Like the sound made when a PGA player hits a golf ball vs the sound it makes when I hit a golf ball.

By the third quarter offenses were ready to wave the white flag vs that defense. Its a shame the offense was so horrific.

You mean like we fired Orgeron 2 yrs after he won a natty?

It always amazes me looking at football scores from the 60s and before. I remember seeing seasons in the 50s where we only gave up 1 touchdown all year and those teams didn’t even win the championship

2011 was great but 2019 would still be able to put up points on that defense. There is just no college team ever that could shut down Chase, Jefferson, Marshall, Miss, and Clyde. Oh and that’s without mentioning the QB running the show that is one of the best to ever do it and even if you cover those 5 he can hurt you with his legs.

I am not sure the 2011 offense would be able to keep up against the 2019 defense. That defense struggled early but when they got healthy it was really good.

well one guy was a cancelled 1-AA game shy of winning 10 games.

the other owns the only 2 non-winning seasons for LSU football this century.

not exactly the same thing.

I question whether the 2011 LSU team could have beaten 2019 Bama or 2019 Clemson. Those teams had just as many NFL players on defense, but also had elite offenses. The 2019 LSU team had defensive problems early, but improved greatly by the end of the season, while the 2011 LSU team only regressed offensively.

Wouldn't be very close. 2019 best 8 - top 10 teams.

Head up, ‘19 would have won if they played at the end of the season. It would have been hard for ‘11 to score on offense—would have had to rely on Tyrann to return a punt or force a fumble and score. And ‘19 would have wound up scoring too much for ‘11 to keep up. But it may have looked more like the Auburn ‘19 game, a lower scoring one.

But, if Oklahoma State hadn’t lost that weird Friday game to Iowa State, we’d have rolled them and added another P5 conference champion notch to the belt. And those 2 teams would by far be the 2 most accomplished in CFB history. Ifs and buts and all that jazz, though.

I will always maintain the 2011 defense was the best in the country, even though Bama had better stats. That defense had to do two things Bama didn't:

1) Play a top-40 offense (LSU played two, Oregon and West Virginia).
2) Get Jordan Jefferson to a national title game.

Had they won it all, 2011 would have had the resume to say they were the best of all time, having beaten the winners of the Cotton, Orange, and Rose bowls.

They could have said it until 2019.
