A history of Tiger Stadium field designs / logos

For some weird reason I've always been fascinated by field decorations / uniform design, etc. It's too bad I haven't been able to implement this into my career somehow, but whatevs.
We're lucky at LSU to have had one of the more colorful and unique field design histories of any football team in history. Thanks to YouTube, it's possible to recap our field designs. Let me know if you think I missed anything significant.
1958 Season
No noticeable midfield logo or endzone design.
1967 Season - Miami at LSU
No noticeable midfield design but a very rudimentary "T I G E R S" is fainly noticeable in the endzone.
1970 - Ole Miss at LSU - BLOCK LSU endzone in North endzone and BLOCK "UM" ole miss logo in blue and red in South Endzone.
1971 Season - Notre Dame at LSU
Notre Dame was given their own endzone decor in Tiger Stadium. Anybody know if this was ever done for any other school? ETA - YES was apparently common in this era. See Ole Miss in 1970 above. Also our field was tinted dark green / light green / dark green every 5 yards. Also first time for our iconic "BLOCK LSU" style endzones which have always been my personal favorite. Finally, notice the goofy arse Tennessee-style "checkerboard" logo at midfield. This also features (for some insane reason) Notre Dame colors. It's purple/yellow for LSU and then gold/navy for ND.
above - notice the "N" from the "N D" Notre Dame endzone. WTF approved that?!?!
1985 Season - Eye of Tiger Debut at Midfield?
1986 Season - Coliseum Arch w/ Block LSU endzone - v's Tulane
Cool design that I don't remember. We also had the iconic Tiger Eye at midfield
1987 - Unique Art Deco "GATSBY" font in endzones - v's Ohio State
We also had this groovy State of LA midfield design with "LSU" diagonally and a star where BR is located.
The Dark Ages of LSU field design - mid to late 1990's
Is it any coincidence that the worst years of LSU football came when our field was at its plainest and least original? Gone were the iconic "BLOCK LSU" endzone fonts. For the first time since the 1960's Tiger Stadium's endzones weren't painted solid colors. Also gone was the "Eye of the Tiger" at midfield.
The "Earthquake game" at least had colorful diamonds straddling the boring arse "LSU" plain jane endzones. During the Herb Tyler years these awful endzones were even sans diamonds. Talk about plain. Look how horrible midfield was...
1990 Shaq-era crazy purple Maravich court with infamous crooked "S"?!?! What are you doing in here - this is a Tiger Stadium thread!
2000 - Return to glory - "BLOCK LSU" endzone font with Eye of Tiger
2005 - switching to "Geaux Font End Zones" probably caused Hurricane Katrina and this gutwrenching loss to Tennessee
ugh... I will always pray for a return to the BLOCK LSU endzones. At least we kept them solid colors and (most importantly) kept the Eye of the Tiger at midfield...

used to be the norm in college football, Alejandro

Can you give me an example of another game played at Tiger Stadium which we painted an opposing team's name and colors in an end zone then?

I'm not saying you are wrong but I honestly don't remember that.

No, since I'm not nearly as fricking old as you, but I do know it used to be a tradition for whatever reason in college football.

Do you think I like hacked into some dude's random 1985 YouTube video of Florida at LSU and re-pixelated the Eye of the Tiger onto midfield?

Great post. It's funny how I don't remember the field being so plain when I was a kid going to the games. Then again, watching a late 80's / early 90's television broadcast makes you quickly realize how far the graphics have come.
Obviously your reasearch proves otherwise, but I don't ever remember anything at midfield other than the eye of the Tiger.

Great thread.
I always liked when the eye was actually placed at the 45 yd line of the left side. giving it that look of a real set of eyes, just with one eye missing.
I like the "SEC" at midcourt.
Keith Jackson and Dick Vitale

That always kind of bugged me - was that the real reason for it? I had never heard that before.

Wow you and Elleshoe are right. I'll update original post to reflect that. I had no idea.

I can't exactly remember when it began but for sure in the late 60's probably through the 70's the opposing team's colors, and abbreviated name UA,UM,etc was displayed in the SEZ.
