Anderson/Doyle matchup exceeded Skenes/Dollander

Thursday March 30, 2023
In a matchup of two players currently starting in big league rotations, Paul Skenes (7IP, 5H, 1ER, 1BB, 12K) out-duels Chase Dollander (4.2IP, 4H, 2ER, 3BB, 3K) in a 5-2 LSU victory made legendary by a Jordan Thompson bases-clearing double in the 8th. Notably, that hit came off of another big leaguer, current Colorado Rockies closer Seth Halvorsen.
I thought Anderson and Doyle’s performances last night, from a pitching perspective, outshone even what Skenes and Dollander did that night. Crazy to think about what the future holds for those two and the battles yet to come between these two programs.

Our offense is significantly worse. So him mowing us down and creating weak pop ups for 7 innings has become a very common thing

Not even close considering the stage, what was on the line, where the 2 pitchers will be drafted and the best baseball a CWS produced from game 1 to championship.

LSU did not face Dollander in Omaha, only once in the regular season

Rhett Lowder and Chase Dollander are different people.

I was at the game 2 years ago, left not at all impressed with dollander. Kept yelling at Tony that he was BP lol. Doyle was impressive from TV, he has very electric stuff

Doyle is the real deal. The guy is a future major leaguer. He is a stud.

The dollander/Skenes matchup happened in March, not Omaha

If you saw Jay's postgame, he was very complimentary of Doyle. Said he's the best opposing pitcher he's seen since he's been at LSU next to Rhett Lowder, and I don't think that's hyperbole.
He's that good. That kind of filth from a lefty definitely plays at the next level.

Yea I’ve got no idea where the downvotes are coming from lol. You’d think I called Skenes overrated or something. Just saying of those two highly touted LSU-Tennessee pitching matchups from recent history, I think last night delivered more in terms of a pitching showcase. Doyle was absolutely dealing, and frankly Anderson still outperformed him

Wasn’t as good as Lowder vs Skenes

That’s not the regular season match-up he compared it to.
