Basketball lost 76-59 in a secret scrimmage over the weekend. Tech was selected 12th in ACC preseason poll.

I haven't watched LSU MBB since The General was relieved of his duties, and I'm not about to start now

No more excuses for the McMen… perform or GTFO
Excitement for basketball is at Trent Johnson level

Real ones remember when we beat #1 Baylor in a secret scrimmage a couple years ago

I remember this, but don't remember which WW team it was.

So much for the up-tempo, run and gun BS hype we’ve been hearing about.

I posted last year when the results of a secret scrimmage vs. Tulsa were leaked that I didn't put too much concern into the results because you never know how each coach treated the scrimmage. The ultimate result was not necessarily the primary goal. The goal (or at least what should be the goal) was to put guys in game like situations to hopefully get a better feel for the potential strengths/weakness of the individual players, and team as a whole.
I stand by that.
However, LSU lost by 1 to Tulsa last year...at Tulsa team that ultimately went 16-15 (7-11) in a relatively weak AAC. LSU was bad in non-conf. play last year. So hearing LSU was blown out in a secret scrimmage is not terribly encouraging. Particularly in a year where they won't have a ton of margin for error in what looks to be only a moderately difficult non-conf. schedule.
Again, a loss in a scrimmage doesn't mean this season is going to be a disaster, or even bad. But for a program looking to gain ANY momentum going into the season in terms of support it's not particularly encouraging in that regard.

Thanks for letting us know. Maybe you shouldn't ever post in basketball threads again.

I’ve noticed the posters who use this tend to have room temp IQs. You don’t seem much different.

Just going by the score it's not the 76 scored by Georgia Tech that is disappointing. It only the 59 scored by LSU that is disappointing and begs the question, will this team have any go-to scorers?

This is his third year on a 7 year deal.
Unless this year is a total collapse, I think he will get a fourth .

We don't know if every player was available in the scrimmage. We don't know if they worked on certain things and didn't care about the score as much. We don't know a lot of things. I wouldn't consider scrimmage results indicative of future performance really at all.

He's also recruiting very well.

So now we are upset about secret scrimmages without context?
I'm on board with saying McMahon needs to make the NCAA tournament to keep his job, but fretting about something like this is ridiculous.
These scrimmages often have different formats, situational periods, play backups to see how they look etc.
We will have enough ammunition to criticize or laud McMahon once the real games start.

I agree.
However, this is year 3 of secret scrimmages and the results of those haven't been favorable to LSU in that time. With the 2 year record of 31-35 (11-25), losing to a team (Ga. Tech) who is likely not going to be very good doesn't inspire a ton of confidence in program that NEEDS it at this point as apathy has completely set in. Don't believe me? Go to the home opener in a few weeks. We would probably be able to shout at each other across the PMAC and hear just fine.
Again, it could be nothing. LSU could have had 4 projected starters out. We don't know. But if past history is the best predictor of future success the result is not particularly encouraging in that regard.
